A Stardew Valley player has shared the bizarre and funny experience they had when they gifted a bomb to Kent. The odd reaction has an explanation, but it’s nonetheless amusing fans of Stardew Valley.
In Stardew Valley, players can give almost anything that can be held in their inventory to NPCs as gifts. However, that doesn’t mean that the townsfolk of Pelican Town will actually take well to them. Each NPC is programmed with a list of what they consider to be presents, with others simply being junk to them.

Stardew Valley fan nightmaresxwin shared their odd experience of handing a bomb to Kent
, who unexpectedly reacted with excitement and nostalgia. With a smile, Kent told the player that the bomb brought back wonderful memories for him, as it was something that his mom used to give to him when he was a child. While it’s possible for players with a good relationship with Kent to receive bombs from him in the mail, it’s not something he actually appreciates receiving in return under normal circumstances. Ordinarily, giving a bomb to any character in the game will annoy them, as it’s one of the universal dislikes in the game.
Why Did Kent React Fondly to a Bomb?
Many players were puzzled by Kent’s reaction, but it can be explained, as his response is due to a bug. Currently, the Nintendo Switch version of Stardew Valley has a bug that makes every gift that can be given a universally loved gift. So, in other words, even giving someone trash in Stardew Valley would be an exciting and happy moment for them, and for Kent, would give the unfortunate response of him saying that he used to be given trash by his mother. Under ordinary circumstances, Kent would only respond to Fiddlehead Risotto
, or one of the universally loved gifts in the game, like a Pearl, in that manner.
While this odd little moment might take some players out of the experience, several have pointed out that it can be easily taken advantage of. Any players who are trying to get in the good graces of a specific Stardew Valley NPC, or are looking to complete specific quests that involve giving loved gifts, can easily raise their heart level or complete said quest with this bug by gifting anything they want. There’s no telling when an update will be pushed that will fix it, though, so players may not want to wait to try it.
