Star Fox Artist Wants Underrated GameCube Game on the Switch 2

Takaya Imamura, the artist behind many Star Fox characters, wants Star Fox: Assault to be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. Legendary Nintendo artist Takaya Imamura is credited with designing many iconic characters, including Fox McCloud, Falco Lombardi, and Captain Falcon from the Star Fox and F-Zero games. Imamura’s work extended to The Legend of Zelda series, where he contributed to titles like A Link to the Past and Majora’s Mask. After a career spanning over three decades, Imamura parted ways with Nintendo in 2021.

According to a new rumor, Nintendo could revive its long-dormant Star Fox franchise with a new game on its unannounced Switch successor console.

As shared by Takaya Imamura on Twitter, the legendary video game artist highlighted two games that he worked on, Star Fox: Assault and Steel Diver: Sub Wars. He expressed his hope that both games will be made playable on the Switch 2. Imamura’s post was accompanied by an illustration of Fox McCloud holding a submarine.

One thing is clear, Takaya Imamura hopes that Star Fox: Assault and Steel Diver: Sub Wars will be among them.

It’s been eight years since Nintendo launched the Switch, and while the Switch 2 is expected to be released sometime in 2025, no official date has been confirmed yet. Fans may be able to pre-order the Switch 2 as early as April 2, 2025, though this has yet to be officially confirmed by Nintendo. While the gaming giant has largely remained tight-lipped about the upcoming system, leaks suggest that the Switch 2 will feature a significant power boost, which could enhance and polish games like Star Fox: Assault, a title that was visually impressive for its time.

Some Star Fox fans may be feeling a bit starved, with the franchise being on ice for nearly a decade. On top of that, a Star Fox Netflix show that was in the works was canceled before it ever reached screens. For many, the chance to pilot Fox McCloud against alien forces on the Switch 2 would be a welcome treat, and it seems Takaya Imamura feels the same way.
