Should I Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis?
How to Get the Splinter of Eothas Relic:
After you make your way through the first portion of the Eothasian Temple, you’ll encounter Sargamis, the Godlike Oracle referred to by the NPCs that initiate “Dawntreader.” The first choice you’ll have to make in the quest is whether to help Sargamis at all. Whether you decide to assist Sargamis in his experiment, you can find the relic by taking the path behind the animancy equipment and the large body.
The path to the relic is pretty straightforward, but if you have any issue locating it, you can follow the link to our “Dawntreader” walkthrough at the start of this guide. Once you have the Splinter of Eothas relic, return to the main chamber where you first met the Oracle.
What to Do with the Relic in Dawntreader:
Option A:
Once you have the Splinter of Eothas, you’ll have a few different ways to use it. If you agree to help Sargamis, your first option will be to place it in the large construct he wants to use to bring back Eothas. If you follow this path, there is nothing you can do to make the Oracle’s experiment succeed. Sargamis will attempt to use the countless souls he’s collected to power the body, using the Splinter of Eothas due to it containing the only remaining essence of the once-powerful god.
When it fails, he will ask you if he can use your “chime,” as that must be the missing ingredient. However, if you agree, you will simply die once the animancy equipment is turned on. You can also convince Sargamis to sacrifice himself, or to give up on the experiment altogether. However, all of this requires you to place the Splinter of Eothas into the body construct.
Killing Sargamis, or convincing him to sacrifice himself, is the only way to get the Last Light of Day, one of the best swords in the game.
If you decide to place the Splinter of Eothas into the Oracle’s body construct, there will be no way to retrieve it. However, there are no long-term benefits to selling the relic. Still, it is important to know that the only way to go back once you have placed the relic is to load a previous save file.
Option B:
This is essentially a variation on Option A, as you’ll still need to place the relic in the body. If you decide to kill Sargamis before or after retrieving the relic, there is still a use for it. Once Sargamis has been dealt with, you’ll hear a voice speaking to you through the Adra. This voice will ask you for permission to use the body that the Oracle created once they are freed from their prison. At this point in the game, there is not much context for this decision.
It is worth exhausting all the dialogue options with the voice, as it will provide you with the first major insights into this character. Should you agree to allow the voice to have the body, you will still need to place the relic in the same device. If you side with the voice throughout the game, you may see what comes of this late in the game.
Option C:
The final option is to simply keep the Splinter of Eothas, and return to Paradis to complete the mission as normal. You can sell the Splinter of Eothas and make a small profit. This is the most short-sighted option, and essentially wastes the relic for very little gain.
