Warning: The following contains spoilers for Re:Zero, Season 3, Episode 10, “The Crusade Against Greed”, now streaming on Crunchyroll.
Subaru and his friends’ defense against the Witch’s Cult continues in Re:Zero season 3, episode 10, “The Crusade Against Greed”. While some Re:Zero episodes are filled with emotional and psychological scenes, this one is of pure, unadulterated action from start to finish. The battle for the Watergate City of Priestella is in full swing, and the animation and music in the action scenes are top-notch.
Out of the many battles happening all over Priestella, this episode focuses on three in particular. The first is Capella’s surprise visit to the bedridden Crusch; then there’s Subaru, Reinhard, and Emilia’s fight against Regulus, and lastly, Priscilla and Liliana vs Sirius. But of course, as the episode title implies, the main focus is on Subaru’s squad.

Re:Zero – Strongest Authorities And Who Can Use Them In The Anime, Ranked
Authority are powerful abilities, but only a handful of characters can use them in Re:Zero.
The Archbishop of Lust’s Attack on Crusch
A Double Ambush
In the final scene of the previous episode, the Archbishop of Lust, Capella Emerada Lugunica, was revealed not to be at the scene where Garfiel and Wilhelm were fighting her minions. Instead, she had snuck into Crusch’s room. In this episode, it was revealed that the figure lying on the bed wasn’t Crusch, but Anastasia Hoshin, who had set up a trap for Capella. Out of the three battles, this one was featured the least, and its outcome is yet to be determined.
However, it did show Anastasia finally taking up arms and actually attacking Capella. Up until now, Anastasia has always worked in the background as a commander and strategist, so it’s cool that she’ll get a little bit of action in this encounter. While it’s exciting to finally see Anastasia take a more active role in the series, at the same time, it’s a sign of how bad the situation is right now if someone like her has to step onto the front lines.

Re:Zero – Best Divine Protections In The Anime (So Far)
The following Divine Protections are some of the most powerful so far in the Re:Zero anime.
Priscilla’s Attack on the Archbishop of Wrath
Poor (Lucky?) Liliana
Priscilla and Liliana’s encounter with the Archbishop of Wrath, Sirius, is certainly an interesting one. Sirius managed to influence Liliana with her Soulwashing, but fortunately, Priscilla managed to snap her out of it with a kiss. The episode doesn’t explain it, but that wasn’t just fanservice for the sake of fanservice. Priscilla has a power known as Soul Marriage that allows her to imbue power into someone she loves and who loves her. In this case, she shared her immunity to Sirius’ Soulwashing with Liliana.
Things get even more interesting when Priscilla and Sirius actually start fighting. Sirius mentions three phrases: “Iris and the Thorn King”, “Teleos’ Rose Knight”, and “Magritzer’s Gibbet”, which infuriated Priscilla. The anime doesn’t explain what these phrases mean in this episode, but if you’re fine with a bit of spoilers, these are titles of books with deep personal connections to Priscilla. They were meant to annoy Priscilla in the hopes that she’d let her mental defenses down enough for Sirius to get in.
Finding Greed’s Weakness
Man Fights Woman After Being Rejected
The main fight of the episode is between Subaru, Reinhard, and Emilia vs the Sin Archbishop of Greed, Regulus Corneas. As revealed in previous episodes, Regulus seems impervious to any physical damage. So, while Reinhard might technically be stronger than him, they don’t have any way of hurting him yet. The episode is mainly focused on trying to find some hidden weakness, and by the end, Subaru figured out how Regulus’ Authority of Greed works.
Subaru calls Regulus’s power “Lion’s Heart”. It freezes time for Regulus’ body so nothing can change its current state. It explains why, no matter how hard Reinhard and Emilia hit him, nothing injures him. Figuring this out doesn’t really tell viewers what Regulus’ weakness could be though, so it should be interesting to see how Subaru and the others bypass Lion’s Heart.
“The true nature of your Authority is… being able to press the pause button in-game! Or how about we call it Lion’s Heart, the ability to stop time for your body?” – Subaru to Regulus
The fight against Regulus was the most action-packed of all, but they kept getting rid of Reinhard with what felt like cheap methods. Regulus just knocked him into buildings or the sky, and Reinhard would disappear for large parts of the episode. It’s mostly done because Reinhard is too strong, and it would be boring if he did all the fighting, but there was probably a better way they could have handled it.
The Other Battles in Priestella
This episode didn’t follow up on a couple of ongoing battles, which is understandable since there’s so much going on at once. As seen in Re:Zero season 3, episode 9, “City Scramble”, Otto and Felt’s crew are currently fighting one of the Archbishops of Gluttony, Lye Batenkaitos, while Julius and Ricardo are up against Gluttony’s other Archbishop, Roy Alphard. Then, there’s also Garfiel and Wilhelm fighting against Lust’s reanimated minions, Kurgan and Wilhelm’s dead wife, Theresia.
