- Fans think Shinedust is useless.
- Players desire more useful rewards like Trade Tokens instead of Shinedust in the Wonder Pick Events.
Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket‘s newest set of Wonder Pick Event rewards doesn’t seem to be doing much to excite its fan base, especially with its inclusion of Shinedust. A crop of new items popped up recently in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket‘s Limited Time/Events shop, but a lot of players seem disenchanted with them, wishing that the developers would give them something more useful as a reward for their dedication to the game.
Wonder Pick Events in Pokemon TCG Pocket have been held roughly once a month since the mobile card battler’s launch in October 2024. This event type rewards players who perform specific Wonder Pick tasks with an event-specific currency called Event Shop Tickets that expire after the event ends, letting them trade these tickets for exclusive items, most of which are cosmetic. The latest event began on February 7, 2024, and some new items were added to the Limited Time/Events shop on February 14, the midpoint of the event’s duration.

But some fans are making noise on social media regarding the “useless” nature of the rewards. This event focuses on Pokemon Diamond and Pearl starter Chimchar, and the midway update added a Chimchar coin, card sleeve, and playmat — as well as a Poke Ball icon — to the list of existing Chimchar-themed event rewards. While past events have disappointed some fans by mainly including cosmetics, the limited-time item that really has fans upset this time around is a collection of 50 Shinedust, another type of in-game item that lost its stock considerably late last month when the game introduced its card trading feature.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Fans Want More Free Trade Tokens
Fans were unhappy with trading in Pokemon TCG Pocket when the feature launched on January 29, largely because each trade required a massive cost in Trade Tickets, a currency that players could only get by trading in unnecessary multiples of cards in their collections. Prior to the introduction of Trade Tokens, the only benefit of trading in cards was to get Flairs, special effects added to specific cards such as making hologram-like symbols of Poke Balls or energy symbols shine above them on the playmat. Adding a Flair also requires Shinedust, and some players who have foregone the entirely cosmetic feature have never used a single Shinedust while others have lamented that they wasted their duplicates on Flairs before the trading feature was announced.
Players lamenting the event rewards on social media don’t seem to have a consensus on what type of currency they would rather be rewarded with, though the notion that Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Shinedust is a useless currency looks practically unanimous. Some are hoping for more Trade Tokens, as the developers have acknowledged the poor reactions to the launch of the trading feature and are looking for ways to make trading cards easier. Others have suggested more Hourglasses to cut down the wait time required between opening new card packs or making more Wonder Picks.
