On social media, Nintendo Switch fans have shared some clearance sale deals they found at some Target stores, including deep discounts on Switch games that normally don’t go on sale. The Switch titles that were shown off in the Target hauls included Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, New Pokemon Snap, and Octopath Traveler 2.
The deals were discovered as Nintendo geared up toward the 2025 release of the Nintendo Switch 2, the successor console to the original Switch. Although some details about the Switch 2 remain sporadic, Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backward compatible with most physical and digital Switch games, barring a few exceptions that remain unclear at the time of writing. Although physical game sales have been down across all major consoles over the last few years, that has not stopped some shoppers from discovering some deals hidden among the clearance store shelves.

While Target has been known to provide Pokemon TCG players with lucky pulls, some Nintendo fans scored amazing deals at their local stores. Taito_man also stated they grabbed Sega’s Samba de Amigo for $11 at a different Target store and claimed that stores in less populated areas tend to be luckier for gamers looking for a bargain. Taito_man also praised Octopath Traveler 2, a highly-regarded title that made this discovery ever more satisfying. Some Reddit users commented that the hit roguelike Hades was a nice find at the $24 mark.
In a separate post, Reddit user Brandox8 shared a picture of two Nintendo first-party titles they purchased for under $20 each. Brandox8 stated that New Pokemon Snap and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury had their prices slashed from $59.99 to an astonishing $17.99 apiece. Considering that the latter title is one of the best 3D platformers on the Switch console, the $17.99 clearance price makes it an easy pickup.
Other users expressed frustration that their Target searches came up empty by comparison. As rumors about a potential February Nintendo Direct circulate on social media, it remains to be seen if other retailers will follow suit with clearance sales of Nintendo titles.
