  • Nintendo Alarmo available without Switch Online subscription.
  • Updates require free Nintendo account.
  • Retail release expected in March 2025.

The Nintendo Sound Clock Alarmo is now a lot easier for buyers to get online, as it’s discontinued the requirement for an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Nintendo fans that haven’t been able to get an Alarmo due to this prior requirement may want to give it another look.

The Nintendo Alarmo arrived as one of Nintendo’s legendary surprises, as aside from some rumors, there was very little revealed about the device prior to Nintendo suddenly announcing its release. As with many Nintendo products, the Alarmo experienced heavy demand early on, even causing a change in plans for the Alarmo release in Japan due to the overwhelming demand.

Nintendo Hotel Partnership Rents Out Alarmo Clocks to Guests

A partnership between Nintendo and several hotels will make it so hotel guests can rent Alarmo sound clocks to wake them up in the morning.

After several months of Alarmo being available exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, the game developer has done away with the requirement. Now, the Nintendo Alarmo alarm clock can be purchased off the official website regardless of one’s account status. Previously, it was only possible to get an Alarmo without the subscription requirement if one went and bought it from the Nintendo Store at its physical location in New York. Since the Alarmo doesn’t interact with the Nintendo Switch in any way, users also won’t need the latest console to use the device. However, there are some small caveats.

Nintendo Alarmo Requirements and General Release

While the Nintendo Alarmo doesn’t require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription anymore, those who want to download updates will still need a Nintendo account. Having an account is free, so there are no additional fees to be concerned with. It’s possible to use the Alarmo without it, but Nintendo has released updates for the device since its launch that added new Alarmo scenes from games like Mario Kart 8. The device is also slated to get an Animal Crossing: New Horizons-themed update in the future, which will have the same free account requirement.

Those who prefer to make purchases offline or through the retailers they normally shop at will need to wait a little longer before picking up an Alarmo. The Nintendo Alarmo is slated to launch at standard retailers sometime in March 2025, though no full list of participating retailers has been announced. Chances are fans will be able to find it at places that usually offer Nintendo products, though, like Walmart, Target, and so on. However, it’s also possible that the retail release will see high demand, as it’s likely for resellers to pounce on the availailable supply. Expectant fans should keep an eye out come March for further details on where the Nintendo Alarmo can be found in-person.
