Papergames, the studio behind Infinity Nikki and Love and Deepspace, is estimated to have pulled in almost $1 billion in revenue last year. This comes after both of these titles proved to be huge hits both in and outside of China.
According to reporting from Forbes, this is enough to make Papergames founder and CEO Yao Runhao a billionaire. It also shows a huge interest in games primarily marketed towards women, with Love and Deepspace in particular still going strong a year after launch.
Papergames Made $850 Million Last Year
This comes after its biggest games also found success outside of China
According to Forbes, Papergames’ international sales reached around $850 million last year, the same year that both of these hits launched. The company itself is valued at $2 billion, and it’s all enough to make Yao a billionaire.
Infinity Nikki launched in December of last year. This free-to-play, dress-up, adventure game hybrid saw huge success before it had even gone live, with 30 million preregistrations. Less than a week after it launched, it had hit 10 million downloads.
Infinity Nikki also marked a departure from the studio’s typical mobile-exclusive releases, also launching on PC and PlayStation 5.
Love and Deepspace launched on mobile devices in January of last year. It is an otome game and the second entry in the Mr. Love series.
Given the live-service nature of these games, they’re unlikely to go anywhere anytime soon. Both are also entries in preestablished series, and now that they’ve got a footing in the international market, things are looking good for Papergames indeed.
