Avowed pits players against strong boss encounters early on, especially during the bounty missions. One of the bounties requires players to find and eliminate Octav the Fireband boss, and his band of dwarven warriors. It’s one of the toughest bounties that you’ll encounter early on in the game. However, taking down Octav is recommended as you’ll get a unique dagger called “Sheathed in Summer” that inflicts the burn status effect on enemies.

How to Beat Octav the Fireband in Avowed

The encounter with Octav the Fireband is part of one of the bounties players can undertake in Southern Paradis in Avowed. It doesn’t matter if you’ve picked up the bounty for Octav or not, you can head to Godless Ruins POI, northeast of the Overgrown Frontier. It’s going to be a tough fight as Octav’s band of warriors is quite formidable and constantly target you and your companions during the encounter.

All Octav the Fireband Attacks

Octav the Fireband doesn’t have any special attacks that you need to vary, apart from some variations of melee attacks. He wields the Sheathed in Summer dagger, which inflicts fire status effects on players. Here are all the melee attacks Octav will use against you.

  • Stab: Octav will use the dagger in his right hand to inflict damage on the players.
  • Fiery Stab: At random intervals, Octav will use the Sheathed in Summer dagger against the players, inflicting damage and the burn status effect.
  • Jump Attack: Octave will jump into the air and stab players with both of the daggers at the same time, causing significant damage and a chance of a burn status effect.
  • Healing Potion: Octav will randomly use a healing potion on himself, to restore some chunk of his health.

Best Strategy to Defeat Octav the Fireband

As you enter the area, you’ll see the band of dwarven warriors scattered around the Godless ruins with Octav standing near the altar. Try to sneak past the enemies, and launch a charged strike directly at Octav. Once all the enemies are engaged, your companions will spring into action to defend your flank.

Try to dodge away from Octav’s strikes and use parry to stagger him. Some of Octav’s Fireband warriors will quickly rush toward your location, and the fight will end up being 2v1. When that happens, make sure to use the flame or freeze throwables for crowd control. Once you use enough freeze bombs on the boss and any enemies in the area of effect, it’ll make them stationary, allowing you to take out the mobs and land some good hits on Octav.

Freezing Octav won’t prevent him from using the healing potion to restore his health. So, it’s best to focus on eliminating the mobs around him so no one interrupts you during the boss fight.

Once Octav is down, you’ll be able to loot the Sheathed in Summer unique dagger from his body in Avowed. This dagger is one of the best-starting weapons in the game which allows you to inflict great damage on enemies and also engulf them in fire.

Make sure to clear the area of any other enemies, and take all the loot in the area first before returning to the Bounty Master Aldrich to exchange Octav’s tooth trophy for money.
