Dark Souls 3: All Bosses In Order

Dark Souls 3 features 25 unique and challenging bosses, each offering special rewards upon defeat while deepening the game’s rich lore.

As you progress through the story, you’ll notice that bosses start dropping more Souls, and that you’ll get items like the Shield of Want that can further boost the number of Souls you obtain from each victory. To defeat the formidable enemies in the game, you need a good weapon that’s reliable and appealing to the eyes. Here’s how to get the Onyx Blade in Dark Souls 3.

How To Get The Onyx Blade In Dark Souls 3

Believe it or not, you can get the Onyx Blade from an early point in the game. If you’ve ever started the Ashes of Ariandel DLC before, you know that all you need to do to enter the painted world is to talk to Slave Knight Gael, who can be found kneeling and praying in the Cleansing Chapel near the Cathedral of the Deep. This means that if you hurry, you can enter the Painted World of Ariandel and make your way towards getting the Onyx Blade within the first few hours of your playthrough. However, this is not recommended, as the Painted World of Ariandel is extremely tough, so it’s advised to wait until you finish the base game before you venture into it.

Assuming your character is already strong enough to safely navigate through the Painted World of Ariandel, you’ll want to make your way to the chapel in the area, where Sister Friede is. There, you’ll meet Sir Vilhelm, who drops the Onyx Blade. He won’t be hostile the first time, but during your second encounter near the library in the Corvian Settlement, he will attack you. It’s a tough fight, but if you manage to emerge victorious, you’ll be rewarded with the coveted Onyx Blade and the Contraption Key needed to progress through the DLC. If you’re worried about this fight and want to protect your Souls, getting as many Rings of Sacrifice as possible is a great idea.

What Are Some Good Builds For The Onyx Blade?

While the Onyx Blade can be used for various builds, a Quality build makes great use of it. When upgraded to +1, it has a Strength and Dexterity scaling rating of “D”, so if you’re doing a Quality build, your damage output will be increased equally as you slowly level these Attributes up.
