One of the coolest magic system mechanics in Avowed is the ability to cause certain effects in the environment depending on the elemental type of the spells used. Ice Magic has a special interaction that allows players to solve certain puzzles, and access loot that is tucked away from their reach.

How To Use Ice Spells To Freeze Water In Avowed
One of the reasons why all Avowed players should carry a basic grimoire with them is the possibility of using it to Freeze Water and climb to certain platforms that are inaccessible otherwise. With that in mind, the mechanic of using an Ice Spell to create Ice bridges and platforms is pretty straightforward.
Players need to select an Ice-type spell from their grimoire, then aim at the water body they want to freeze, and release the spell. The Ice block will last a few seconds, enough time to give players the chance to jump towards ledges or platforms and collect treasure, hidden gear, or materials to improve weapons at the Workbench.
Needless to say, when Spells are cast they cost Essence, so make sure to have enough before starting to create bridges. Since spellcasting doesn’t work while swimming, there will always be a platform on the other side that players want to access, and a body of water in the middle that they can freeze. It is a design that is easily recognizable and that players should keep this in mind to discover hidden loot that is not always lying there in plain sight.
Here’s a list of all the spells that can trigger this particular mechanic and freeze water into a useable platform:
- Chill Blades (Lvl 1 Spell)
- Blast of Frost (Lvl 8 Spell)
- Freezing Pillar (Lvl 18 Spell)
The Eye of Rymrgard grenade also causes a similar freezing effect on water and can be used as a substitute for these spells for players when they’re out of essence or do not have a grimoire with them.
