Days Gone Fans Aren’t Happy About Another Remaster Detail

Days Gone Remastered on PS5 will be launching as a digital-only title on April 25, with no plans for a physical release. The original Days Gone was a sales success, but earned mixed reviews from critics. Despite its strong sales, Sony reportedly rejected Bend Studio’s pitch for a sequel. While there’s no word on whether a Days Gone sequel will ever materialize, fans do at least have Days Gone Remastered to look forward to after the latest PlayStation State of Play event.

Days Gone Remastered will offer a near-identical gameplay experience as the 2019 PS4 original, but with some added PS5 enhancements. Days Gone fans can look forward to somewhat improved visuals, DualSense controller support, and a variety of new game modes, including an arcade-style horde mode, a Permadeath mode, and a Speedrun mode, all with new trophies to unlock. While this sounds exciting for Days Gone fans hungry for more, a couple of details about the remaster have left some feeling frustrated.

The latest Days Gone Remastered controversy centers around the fact that the game is digital-only. Days Gone Remastered‘s status as a digital-only release came to light in the PlayStation Blog post about the game, with users in the comment sections voicing their disapproval of the choice. Sony did not provide an explanation as to why it decided to release Days Gone Remastered digital-only, but regardless, it’s disappointing news for gamers that prefer physical media.

Days Gone Remastered on PS5 is Digital-Only

Days Gone Remastered being digital-only isn’t the only problem fans have with the game. There have also been complaints about Days Gone Remastered‘s upgrade path, or lack thereof, for those that “own” the game through PlayStation Plus. Those that actually own Days Gone on PS4 can upgrade to the remastered version for $10, while those that have the game through PS Plus will have to pay the full price of $49.99. While this does make sense on Sony’s part, it’s understandably rubbed some fans the wrong way.

Despite these controversies, it’s possible Days Gone Remastered will succeed in its goal of delivering a superior version of the 2019 game. Those that aren’t happy about the game’s digital-only status and lack of a proper upgrade path for the PS Plus version can at least still play the PS4 version on PS5 thanks to backward compatibility. And not only that, but Days Gone received a PS5 update that actually makes it run better when played on Sony’s latest system. It may lack all the bells and whistles of Days Gone Remastered, but it’s better than nothing.
