Rather than buying expensive swords to upgrade your gear in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it’s often smarter to craft them at a Smithy instead. To do so, you’ll need various materials, which will often include guards and certain types of metal.

Straight Sword Guards are things you’ll need to craft the likes of the Knight’s Longsword, which you’ll need to improve your attacking ability and as part of some quests. However, since you can’t collect sword guards in the open world, as you can plants and herbs, you’ll need to go to specific places to get them.
Where To Buy Straight Sword Guards
Much like any smithing material, the best way to get Straight Sword Guards is to buy them. You can head to the blacksmith in Grund to get them, but the most reliable place to go is to the Weaponsmith in Kuttenberg City.
You’ll find him to the right of the market in the centre of town, as shown in the screenshot above, and he’ll sell them for 5.8 Groschen each. However, you can get them for a little less if you’re prepared to haggle. Unlike most smithing materials, Weaponsmiths are much more likely to sell them than Blacksmiths are.
There are various different types and rarities of sword guard. Straight Sword Guards are the ones you’ll need most regularly, but be sure to closely check the recipe for the sword you’re crafting.
How To Find Straight Sword Guards
If you’re running low on Groschen and want to get Straight Sword Guards for free, you can try and loot them from certain places. However, they’re not common.
The best places to check are in the shops and houses of Blacksmiths and Weaponsmiths, or the bodies of dead guards. They’re the most likely people to stock or carry the guards, so you may be able to loot them from them. Just be sure to do it at nighttime so that you’re unlikely to be caught. You may also need a high Thievery stat to unlock the chests that have Straight Sword Guards in them.
