Ubisoft CEO Says They Will Continue Doing Exactly What They’ve Been Doing “Year After Year”

Assassin's Creed Shadows Battle Pass Has Seemingly Leaked

Summary

  • Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirms the company will stick to the open-world and live service strategy it has been following all these years.
  • Titles like Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora have taught them nothing.
  • Another CEO who has no idea what fans want.

Among the many issues that people have with Ubisoft, perhaps the biggest one is that it forces its open-world template on every new IP it can think of. The Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry series are already notorious for their open-world mundanity, and the company decided to force it upon Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora as well.

XDefiant Is Yet Another Game That Was Doomed From The Start

Ubisoft’s shooter deserved better, but was never going to get it.

To add to that, Ubisoft decided to shelve one of the best games it has made in the last few years. This sheer lack of risk and pushing out the same formula has seen the studio fall in the eyes of many. So, what does the studio plan on doing moving forward? Exactly the same thing it’s been doing all this while.

More Of The Same

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has said that the company will continue to follow the open-world and live service strategy. As spotted by VGC, Guillemot was asked during a financial call if he could shed some more light on the developmental plans for the next few years. He replied that Ubisoft will follow the same path it has been on for years to come.

Star Wars Outlaws Sounds Like Every Ubisoft Game, Just Without The Bad Stuff

An Ubisoft game at its best is still the same old thing, just better.

“We have been investing significantly for a big pipeline of products for the coming years along our two verticals, [these] being open-world action adventure as well as ‘Game as a Service’-native experiences,” he said. “And that’s what we want to deliver year after year.”

“As you know, we are preparing a big launch for Assassin’s Creed Shadows in the very short term. Next year we’ll have big plans that will benefit Rainbow Six across all platforms, that’s focusing well, and that’s a key milestone in the gross plan for the company.”

He went on to mention that while Anno 117: Pax Romana and The Division: Resurgence on mobile will be coming in the financial year 2026, the studio still has more to share, but will only be able to do so in May.

It seems CEOs do not live on the same planet as us. It’s been made abundantly clear by fans and critics that Ubisoft needs to change up its formula a bit. Likewise, while it was pretty evident why Dragon Age: The Veilguard didn’t perform well, EA CEO Andrew Wilson chalked its financial failure down to the lack of live-service components.
