A leaked GPU-Z screenshot has apparently revealed some key specs for the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card, which could prove to be better for gamers than expected. While AMD hasn’t released this information itself, the screenshot gives us some idea of the potential performance that this card will offer gamers, weeks ahead of its release in March.
This new AMD flagship GPU is set to launch in early March, according to an RX 9070 XT release date window provided by the company’s CEO. That timescale means the new card is only weeks away, but AMD still hasn’t confirmed much about the card itself, leaving leaks and rumors to fill in the gaps. However, we do expect this GPU to be one of the best graphics cards available for the average gamer, even if it lacks the performance power that Nvidia offers with its top-tier Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090.
This leak showing the specs for this unreleased GPU was unveiled in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Hong Kong tech website HKEPC, captioning the picture with “RX 9070 XT (Navi 48)” only, referencing the internal name for the card’s GPU. The screenshot shows a card with a Navi 48 card GPU, albeit with the card’s official name obscured, running with very similar internals to those referenced in a recent 9070 XT specs leak a few weeks ago, although with some important differences.
If these specs prove to be accurate, then it means the Radeon RX 9070 XT will launch with the expected 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM. The specs listed in the screenshot also include 4,096 stream processors, a 256-bit memory bus, and total memory bandwidth of 644.6GB/s.
However, while those rumored specs pointed to a base clock speed of 2.4GHz, boostable up to 2.97GHz, this screenshot seems to show a card with a base clock speed of 2.57GHz that boosts up to 3.1GHz. This difference could be explained by it being a higher-end RX 9070 XT card with factory overclocking applied, or it could be the final specs for the base model card, with the earlier leak incorrect instead. We won’t know for sure until AMD reveals the official specs later this month, however.
An interesting change revealed here, too, is the use of PCIe 5.0 interface. That specifically contradicts information leaked by Overclockers UK last month, and reported by Videocardz at the time, which stated in an FAQ that the RX 9070 XT was set to “utilize PCIe Gen 4 connectivity.” The extra bandwidth afforded by using PCI 5.0 is unlikely to offer any noticeable performance benefit for a mid-tier card with these specs, however.
We’re still expecting this new RDNA 4 flagship card to compete in the mid-tier for gaming, coming up against the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti for the average gamer. Despite reports that AMD is abandoning high-end gaming, these specs show the GPU maker isn’t entirely getting out of the game with a card that, while it isn’t likely to challenge an RTX 5090 or RTX 5080 in performance, is still going to be a GPU that the average gamer is likely to want – if the performance matches up to expectations, that is.
