With the Straw Hats finally arriving in Elbaf, One Piece fans are witnessing the long-awaited unfolding of one of the most mysterious locations in the series. However, beyond the might of the giants, one of the most intriguing elements of Elbaf is the Adam Tree, the strongest and most legendary tree in the world.

This ancient tree provided the wood for the first ship to reach Laugh Tale, the Oro Jackson, but its significance may go far beyond shipbuilding. The recent manga development, chapter 1138, suggests that the Adam Tree could hold connections to elements of One Piece’s lore, including the Void Century, the Ancient Kingdom, and Joy Boy’s legacy.

The Adam Tree Has Gone Through The Test Of Time

The Dream Tree Of Every Pirate

Thousand Sunny One Piece (1)

The Adam Tree is one of the rarest trees in the One Piece series. It is an entity that has survived through the ages, standing strong against the chaos of the world. It has lived through the Void Century, the rise of the World Government, and the Great Pirate Era, proving itself to be more than just an ordinary tree and is also a witness to history. The ships built from the tree are nearly indestructible. The ship of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, was made from the lumbar of the Adam Tree.

The ship’s name was Oro Jackson, and it was built by the great shipwright, Tom of Water 7. The Oro Jackson is the first and only ship that has reached Laugh Tale. Hence, it endured the harshest seas as this is common with weather irregularities on the Grand Line due to the sturdiness and high quality of the wood. Also, the Thousand Sunny, the Straw Hats’ ship, was constructed using Adam Wood from the Warland Kingdom. The Straw Hats shipwright, Franky, ensured he used the lumber from the tree so that it could withstand the harshest seas and strongest foes. Franky wanted the ship to be worthy of Luffy’s dream; a vessel that could reach the ends of the world without ever breaking.

Every pirate dreams of having the best ship, one that can carry them through the dangerous water on the Grand Line. For this reason, the tree is coveted by many pirates, and it is usually sold on the black market. There are many Adam trees across the Grand Line, and the one in Warland is the most popular. Franky bought the Thousand Sunny’s lumbar from Warland. However, the Adam Tree in Elbaf is the oldest and the biggest in the series. In this vein, there is a probability that the roots of the tree in Elbaf spanned across the Grand Line.

The Importance Of The Adam Tree In Elbaf

Loki Of The Underworld

Loki Bounty 2

Elbaf is a land of warriors who value strength and honor, so it makes sense that the strongest tree in the world exists here. Hence, giants, who lived for hundreds of years, would see the Adam tree as a sacred entity. The parallels between Norse mythology and One Piece’s Elbaf and Adam’s tree are impossible to ignore. In Viking legend, Yggdrasil is the world tree, a sacred tree that connects different realms of existence. It is said to hold knowledge, history, and fate itself within its roots and branches.

In One Piece, the Adam tree has three layers: the Sun world, the Astral world and the Underworld. The Sun World is the middle level where the giants live, the Astral World is the canopy level and the upper part of the tree, while the Underworld is the base of the tree. The Underworld currently holds Loki, the kingslayer and the son of King Harold.

Loki is currently held in the Underworld and has been chained there for many years for his crimes. Loki killed many Elbaf warriors in the throne room; however, he was later defeated by Shanks and chained to the tree. In this way, someone as strong as Loki could not bring down the tree due to its resilience. Hence, it plays a crucial role in holding him down so he won’t hurt the remaining giants like he did in the past. While Loki’s power is yet to be unveiled, it most likely has something to do with his eyes, as they were shut close by fabric. Loki’s devil fruit will be very powerful and, as such, he could have the destructive power to destroy Elbaf. Even the Holy Knight finds him important and wishes to recruit him as part of the Celestial Dragons as a means to take control over Elbaf.

The Mural Of The Old World

The Connection to History and the Void Century

imu-power

In chapter 1138, an ancient mural is found by Franky while traveling with Ripley. At the same time, Robin finds an old Harley text that talks about what has happened in the past and a prophecy that is yet to come. The mural is seen as a child’s play by Ripley, but it shows something more. Ancient giants drew the mural to pass the message of the wars that once engulfed the world in the past. Also, the Harley texts show the two wars in the past, how they are connected, a vague description of the people or races involved and how the world was destroyed.

One Piece: The Holy Knights Vs Elbaf Giants, Explained

The Holy Knights will face the powerful giants from Elbaf in One Piece. These two groups are very powerful.

The Adam tree survived so long while so much has been erased. Most likely, the essence of Adam’s tree and the Harley texts, which have many interpretations of the past, was to pass on the message of the new dawn that is yet to come. Another theory is that maybe Elbaf has other secrets of the past, and the government wants to keep it buried at all cost. Hence, they deploy the Holy Knights to recruit one of Elbaf’s strongest, Loki. If the World Government is trying to erase history, then destroying Elbaf and the Adam Tree to keep its secrets buried is the right choice.

After all, Dr Vegapunk has already revealed too much of the past in the Egghead arc.

Also, part of the Adam tree could be in the ancient weapon, Pluton, which is an advanced warship capable of mass destruction. In other words, the tree might have played a role in constructing ancient ships or weapons in the past due to its indestructible structure. With the Straw Hats now in Elbaf and a catastrophe bound to happen in the fold, many secrets of the Adam tree may finally come to light. Like Yggdrasil in Norse mythology, it may very well be the bridge that connects the past, present, and future.
