Pokemon Fan Creates Pre-Evolution for Carnivine

A Pokemon fan has shared their design for a Carnivine pre-evolution, dubbing the new creature Carnibud. The artist’s idea has been received well by the Pokemon community so far, with some clamoring for a change to be made to Carnivine.

Following the introduction of Baby Pokemon, some fans speculated that every Pokemon would eventually have a pre-evolution at some point. However, the Pokedex has grown dramatically since then, and partially as a result, not every Pokemon gets to have a full evolutionary line. This has led some Pokemon fans to lament the lack of attention their favorites have received, while others decide to imagine what it would be like if that were to change.

Pokemon is introducing two new life-size plush toys, this time focusing on creatures that originated in Gen 1 and Gen 5 games.

Enter qobrosii, who shared their artwork and Pokedex entry for a pre-evolution for Carnivine, which they’ve named Carnibud. Carnibud bears a strong resemblance to its older form, with the same green oval head, Carnivine’s large eyes, and a round, bulb-like body. However, there are a number of differences as well, with Carnibud lacking the Venus Flytrap-like teeth Carnivine has, while it has much more diminutive fronds for its upper appendanges, and feet instead of Carnivine’s tentacle-like vines. It’s not hard to imagine Carnibud growing like an actual plant, making it a clever and cute Baby Pokemon design.

Pokemon Fans Discuss Carnivine Evolution Possibilities

In the comments, qobrosii went on to explain that they imagine Carnibud as a Normal/Grass-type Pokemon. Carnibud chases bugs around and eats them, which fuel its growth towards becoming Carnivine. However, at least one player says that if they had this Pokemon that it would be carrying an Everstone to prevent that from happening, as they like the design for Carnibud that much. Numerous fans said that they would like to see this Pokemon pre-evolution in an actual game. Others shared their frustration with the lack of forms and evolutions that Carnivine has been given, as it’s one of the Pokemon in the series that has lacked any kind of evolution since its inception in Gen 4.

The Pokemon fan community has no lack of talent or creativity to share, if posts like these are any indication. This is far from qobrosii’s first contribution in that regard, with the Pokemon fan regularly coming up with interesting evolutions and forms for existing Pokemon. While many Pokemon trainers are waiting to see what brand-new Pokemon get revealed in the series, it looks like many would also appreciate it if the developer would go back and give some love to some overlooked creatures from past generations.
