Pokemon Fan Art Depicts Psyduck as Final Fantasy Characters

A Pokemon fan has illustrated what Psyduck would look like as different Final Fantasy Jobs like Black Mage, Monk, and more. Pokemon and Final Fantasy fan art has been around since both franchises began, but this is a rare instance of both being combined.

Since Pokemon Red and Blue were released, fans have been creating art revolving around the series. This often includes different types for existing Pokemon, regional variants, and entirely unique Pokemon that fans would like to see added to the series. Similarly, Final Fantasy gamers have depicted existing, and unique characters based on that universe since 1987. Given both franchises are Japanese RPGs, they have some player crossover, but the fan art rarely bridges the gap. One Pokemon fan has decided to imagine what Psyduck may look like in the Final Fantasy world, showing the Pokemon in different garb to reflect various Jobs.

Twitter user Oliver Hamlin recently shared Pokemon fan art portraying Psyduck as different Final Fantasy characters. The image sequentially shows Psyduck as a White Mage, Black Mage, Warrior, Monk, Red Mage, and Thief. Psyduck’s hair pokes through the top of the white and red White Mage robe; its eyes glow yellow in the darkness underneath the Black Mage hat; it stands proudly with a sword and shield as a Warrior; it wears a black Gi and matching headband as a Monk; it has a frilly cloth and winged hat as a Red Mage; it has a green tunic and orange bandanna as a Thief. Beyond the changing outfits, Psyduck’s temperament adjusts to fit each Job, with a stern expression as a Thief and a softer glance as the Final Fantasy White Mage.

Psyduck Receives a Final Fantasy Job Makeover in This Fan Art

The fan art appears to draw inspiration from the character lineup in the original Final Fantasy, in which each Job has evolved versions like the Knight for the Warrior, Ninja for the Thief, and Wizards for each mage class. Oliver Hamlin has suggested that they’d like to revisit this concept with different Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy 5, and Final Fantasy Tactics classes, meaning more fan art may appear in the future. Among the missing Jobs suggested by fans are Bard, Beastmaster, Chemist, Dark Knight, Dragoon, Gunbreaker, Ninja, Paladin, Pirate, Puppetmaster, Rogue, Samurai, and Summoner. Beyond the other Jobs players would like to see, some Twitter users also recommended using Farfetch’d, Squirtle, Tepig, and Final Fantasy‘s Tonberry as templates in the future. Outside this Final Fantasy and Pokemon mashup, some fans also want to see the artist’s take on Bravely Default and Chrono Trigger characters.

Given how many Final Fantasy Jobs and characters there are, Oliver Hamlin could be busy making Psyduck fan art for a while. As it’s hard to time how long fan art may take, like any creative expression, it’s unclear when their next piece will be shared.
