The world of One Piece has several characters who have, over the years, established themselves as mighty forces on the seas. Among the powerhouses of the One Piece world, there are most definitely characters whose strength knows no bounds, such as the Yonko, and of course, the Admirals are right around the corner as well. Then, there are newly introduced characters such as the Holy Knights, and of course, one absolutely cannot forget about the Five Elders and the one who rules them all, Imu. These are all monsters who have, over the years, become legends.

Among these legends, there are those who were destined for greatness from a very young age. These characters were born with tremendous fighting prowess, such that they were considered to be geniuses when they were very young. Using this immense genius of theirs, they went on to reach the very top, which is what makes these characters unique. Now, Oda has revealed to the fans the biggest of all the prodigies in the One Piece world.
The Biggest Prodigies In One Piece
- Some Of The Most Skilled Prodigies Include Oden
- Shanks Was Up There With The Best
Fans have seen many prodigies in One Piece over the years, but few have made a lasting impression. For instance, Kozuki Oden, upon being introduced, was clearly a massive prodigy. Fans knew that he was a monstrously powerful individual who had killed a bear at 4, visited pleasure houses at 6, beat Yakuza by 8, and fully mastered two of the most legendary swords by 10. It is said that Oden had complete control over his swords by the age of 10, which means he could use the power of Ryuo at this young age. His blades included Enma and Ame no Habakiri, which means that the sword that Zoro still struggles to use fully was already tamed by him back then. By the age of 18, Oden was a total monster and in his prime, he went on to reach the same level as the legends of the One Piece world, such as the Yonko and even the likes of Whitebeard and Roger.
What happened to him in Kuri? There are only a scant few capable of fighting me. How high will your ceiling go? — Kaido
Similarly, there exist legends like Kaido and Big Mom as well, although very little is known about their pasts to call them prodigies. Kaido was already the strongest soldier of Vodka Kingdom by 10, and his bounty was 70 million at 13. At 15, he was a monster who joined the Rocks Pirates and was most certainly a strong figure, but again, very little is known about his true power.
Linlin was very similar. She beat and killed bears with a punch accidentally when she was 5, and even killed Jorul in a fit of rage. She destroyed a village in Elbaf and eventually left the country. Linlin became a pirate at a very young age and received a 50 million berry bounty. She received a 500 million berry bounty not long after and eventually joined the Rocks Pirates. Unfortunately, little is known about her strength in her younger days to truly know how much of a prodigy she was.
Then, there is Loki. Fans know he considered the Underworld of Elbaf at a very young age and unleashed beasts on the Sun World as well. He even killed King Harald, and ate the legendary Devil Fruit of Elbaf. But, Loki is quite old and Giant years don’t truly equate to human years. As such, he cannot openly be stated to be the biggest prodigy in One Piece.
Why Shanks Is One Piece’s Strongest Prodigy
He Mastered Impossible Abilities As A Kid
When speaking of One Piece prodigies, there most certainly are many who make the cut, but only one who can outright be stated to be at the top of them all, and this person is none other than Red-haired Shanks. Shanks is the son of Saint Garling Figarland and the younger twin of Shamrock Figarland. He was born into a very powerful family and his strength was always known to be tremendous, even when he was young.
Under the tutelage of Roger, Shanks truly became a monster, such that he was openly called the next Pirate King by many of the Roger Pirates and even Buggy considered it to be a title reserved for him.
But, Shanks’s most prodigious feat was revealed by Oda recently. According to Oda, Shanks was such a genius that he managed to copy Roger’s signature technique, Kamusari, by himself. Here’s what Oda had to say:
Shanks was such a genius that Roger pirates were all surprised that Shanks learned Divine Departure by himself without instruction from Roger, and no one else in Roger’s pirates could even mimic it. — Oda
This might come off as a minor deal to some, but the implications of this are massive. First off, Oda himself calls Shanks a big genius. On top of that, Shanks could pull off something that even Rayleigh couldn’t. Given that Shanks was 15 when the Roger Pirates disbanded, this had to have been long before he was 15, meaning Shanks had mastered the power of Kamusari around 13 or 14 years of age, which is staggering.

What makes it a massive deal is the fact that Kamusari is a very special technique. This ability requires one to use advanced Conqueror’s Haki, meaning the weapon must be infused with Supreme King Haki. Shanks was able to infuse Conqueror’s Haki before the age of 15, which is a shocking feat for anyone in One Piece.
There Is More To Come From Shanks
Shanks’s True Power Is Monstrous
There is no denying the fact that Shanks was the biggest genius in One Piece as a kid, as far as fans know. However, the best of him is yet to be seen. Oda has only revealed one exploit from young Shanks in the story so far. There is a lot more to come and that will have to wait until the story actually focuses on Shanks. Right now, the story is in the Elbaf arc, and here, Oda will likely reveal to the fans some exciting bits through Shamrock Figarland. But, later down the line, when Shanks is truly focused on in the story, be it in his own arc or through some other character, his true genius will be portrayed by Oda.
Fans only know one feat of kid Shanks so far, and that alone has made him One Piece’s biggest prodigy. When more information is revealed, he’ll most definitely consolidate his position as the strongest of the current era, at least among the pirates.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1140, is set to be February 23, 2025.
