Franky came upon this engraving himself, while Robin was seen reading the Harley, which corresponds to the mural itself. While there is certainly a lot of information that the engravings, one thing that fans absolutely cannot overlook is the importance of the moon. Undoubtedly, the moon is of great importance in the mural, and in One Piece, in general. In fact, the mural even hints at Luffy himself being from the moon, which, although sounds ridiculous, could well be true. Fans want to know more about what becomes of the moon later down the line in the story, and how it is tied together into everything.
Luffy And The Mysterious D People
The People Of The D Are A Mystery To This Day
The D people are a big mystery in One Piece to this day. Introduced first with Luffy, fans slowly got to know more about the people of the D, and their importance. It is clear that there exist many D people in the One Piece world, and that their identities are hidden, in one way or another. At the same time, it is also clear in the story that the D were being persecuted for having this name. Some chose to abandon the name altogether, while others hid it in different ways.
Gold Roger? My name is Gol D. Roger. The Government is just trying to hide my name. — Roger
The D are directly connected to the Void Century of the One Piece world, which is where the massive battle against the World Government took place. More than that, even the One Piece itself is connected to the people of the D. When Oden and Roger found the One Piece, they finally understood the meaning of the D, and why the Government chose to hide the truth behind Roger’s name. A lot of unexplained stuff finally made sense to them. However, for the fans, the mystery of the D that Luffy carries in his name still remains.
How The Harley Connects Moon People To The D
Oda Has Connected The D People To The Moon In One Piece
In One Piece chapter 1138, fans got to see a ton of exciting bits of information through the mural that Oda displayed, and through Robin’s recitation of the Harley. It was revealed that there exist three worlds in total in One Piece, with two of them having been destroyed already. Both times the world was destroyed, and the name of the Sun God Nika was invoked, which is why some believe him to be a God of Liberation, and others think he is a God of Destruction. Here’s what the Harley says about the three worlds of One Piece:
First World
Flames engulfed the land, and humans succumbed to their desires, touching the forbidden Sun. The enslaved prayed, and the Sun God appeared. The Earth God was enraged, and together with the serpent of infernal flames, shrouded the world in death and darkness. They would never meet again.
Second World
Breath stirred within the void, and the Forest God sent forth demons. The Sun did nothing but spread the fires of war. The people of the half-moon dreamed, the people of the full-moon dreamed. Humans slew the Sun and became Gods, and the Sea God raged. They Would never meet again.
Third World
In chaos, there is void. The troubled shadow remembers the promised day, and hears the voice of the fractured moon. The Sun God dances and laughs, leading the world to its end. The sun will return once more, and a new dawn will arrive. Surely, this time, they will meet again.
Clearly, the Harley reveals a ton of exciting information to the fans about the previous worlds, and even the people who lived back then, most importantly, Nika. But, it might also reveal the truth about the people of the D.
Specifically in the Second and Third Worlds, the Harley speaks of the people of the Half-moon, and the people of the Full moon. This is very interesting, given that it directly connects to the D people of the One Piece world. The people of the Full moon clearly refers to the moon people in the One Piece world, which is clearly the Winged Races. Based on the cover story of Enel, it is clear that the winged races of the One Piece actually come from the moon. There was an ancient city called Birka on the moon once, and the Winged Races of the world lived there in harmony long ago, possibly way over 1000 years ago. However, eventually, they ran out of resources and had to leave the city of Birka on the moon behind. They then set their eyes on the Blue Star, or the Earth of the One Piece world, and descended.

Oda loves to bring back old villains in One Piece. He also makes them stronger.
The Winged Races of the One Piece world settled in different parts. Some, such as the Skypieans, lived on the Sky Islands, which were likely created following the destruction of the First World due to excess pyrobloin. Others, such as the Lunarians, went to the top of the Red Line and decided to create the kingdom of Gods there. The Shandians are known to have settled on the Blue Sea, on Jaya, while the Birkans went to a Sky Island called Birka, which was later destroyed by Enel. These are the Full Moon people of the One Piece world, who are directly connected to the Half-moon people.
Could Luffy Be From The Moon?
Luffy Has Moon Blood In His Veins
Given that the Full-moon people are those who came from the moon, the Half-moon people are most likely a result of the procreation between the earthlings and the full-moon people. In other words, the Half-moon, or the D, are the descendants of the full-moon people, through mating with humans. Given that the moon people possessed very advanced knowledge, it is no surprise to know that together with the Half-moon people, the Ancient Kingdom became as advanced as it was.
The people of the Half-moon saw a dream, the people of the Full Moon saw a dream. — Harley
More specifically, the half-moon people are likely the descendants of the Shandians and humans, which means that every character in One Piece who carries a D in their name descend from the Shandian line. Given that the Shandians themselves come from the moon, the D are, naturally, connected to the moon as well. Luffy himself is connected to the moon and is technically half alien to the humans.
