New CS2 update is great news for Cache fans

Valve has released a small new CS2 update, which could seem inconsequential, but could also be great news for fans hoping to see Cache return to the map pool in the future. Despite being out of the Active Duty map pool since 2019, Cache remains a fan favorite, with plenty of calls for its eventual return in the community.

New CS2 update increases Workshop map upload size

So, why is this update good news for Cache, you might ask? The main headline change is that now, CS2 Steam Workshop maps can have a maximum file size of 3GB, increased from the previous of 2GB. There have been rumblings on Discord that Cache creator FMPONE is nearing completion of his newest version of the iconic CS:GO map. When asked about whether the latest change in the new CS2 update could have any relation to allowing Cache to be uploaded, FMPONE had only a thumbs-up picture to post in response.

It’s a vague response, sure, but it’s not a no, either. Considering the iconic status that Cache has in the CS community, there’s no doubt that Valve would be accommodating in order to allow it onto the Steam Workshop, especially if FMPONE had gone over the previous file size considerably.

If Cache does get added to CS2, the Steam Workshop is likely where it will come from first. Valve has only recently made a change to the CS2 map pool, with Train coming in for Vertigo. There’s no guarantee we’ll ever see Cache in Active Duty again, but if we do, it will be a long process that will likely involve a stint on the Workshop and some time in Competitive. Only then could Cache enter the map pool once more. Let’s hope that FMPONE isn’t just memeing, and is planning to release his new version of Cache soon.
