The latest in the series of the famous Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuX -Beginning-,” was released in Japan to much fanfare on 17th January 2025. Serving as a pilot episode that consists of the re-edited version of the first several episodes, it serves as a way for fans to know what to expect from the upcoming anime series, and there’s good news for North American fans of the series, as the movie is about to make its way into North American theaters in IMAX but only for a day!

In this altered version of the Universal Century timeline, some major changes include Char Aznable taking control of the RX78-2 Gundam known to be the White Gundam and using the Red Gundam to make the Principality of Zeon win the One-Year War. Five years after the end of the war, which is set five years in the future, the story is based on Amate Yuzuriha, who is a high school student residing in a space colony. Her life drastically changes upon meeting Nyaan, a war refugee who gets involved in the secret ranking battles called “Clan Battles” of mobile suits. Taking over the call sign “Machu,” Amate assumes the challenging role of the pilot of the newly developed mobile suit, the GQuuuuuX, navigating a perilous path in this underground arena.
