The Necessary Evil quest forces Henry to make some hard choices in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Otto von Bergow recruits Henry and Hans to interrogate a prisoner, and depending on what players choose to do, they could start a feud between two Noble families.

This guide covers all the different ways the KCD2 main quest could turn out depending on Henry’s choices and which is the least troublesome in the long run.

Necessary Evil Quest Walkthrough

Necessary Evil Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Necessary Evil starts with Otto von Bergow asking Henry and Hans to interrogate and possibly torture a bandit they picked up who was a part of the group that attacked von Bergow. This group is the same one that attacked Henry and Han’s party at the beginning of the game during the Easy Riders quest.

After speaking to von Bergow, talk to Hans sitting on the bench next to the staircase. He and Henry begrudgingly agree they have no choice but to interrogate the man if they want more information.

If players want to avoid torturing the man, they must rely on their Charisma, Deception, and Intimidation skills. They can boost their stats by wearing high-quality armor and learning the Dark Arts Apprentice perk to boost Domination, Coercion, and Intimidation. Whenever ready, follow Hans to the dungeon and enter the torture chamber.

How to Interrogate the Prisoner

Skill Check Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Although the bandit is restrained in the torture chamber, he isn’t willing to talk to Henry and Hans without some prompting. There is a way to avoid having to use any torture, but it requires beating several skill checks and choosing the proper responses.

  1. First, choose “I’m Henry.”
  2. When given the option to slap the prisoner, say, “Let’s do this the easy way.”
  3. During the next choice, say, “I’m not a traitor.”

After this point, the questioning will start. Players can ask the prisoner about the hiding place, who his leader is, and if Istvan Toth is with the group. Each question requires a skill check to pass.

Henry must resort to torture if he fails any of the skill checks.

When Henry asks the prisoner where his band is hiding, players who discovered something was amiss at Nebakov during the Back In The Saddle quest can skip the skill check by selecting “We already know anyway” and its coinciding prompts. Otherwise, they must pass an Intimidation or Coercion check. Then ask the following questions:

  • Who is your leader? (Hard Intimidation or Coercion Check)
  • Is Istvan with you? (Medium Speech Check)

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – How to Increase Charisma

Here’s how to increase the Charisma stat in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

If players fail the checks, it doesn’t necessarily mean they have to use the torture tools, but they will have to punch or slap him a couple of times. The prisoner will tell them that the bandits are hiding Nebakov and that Istvan Toth is working with them.

A really important piece of information players can get from him is who in the region is helping him. The prisoner reveals that Olda Semine is a part of the bandit group. They can pass a Speech check for this or torture him for it. That is the last thing players need to know, and they can talk to von Bergow.

What Should You Tell Von Bergow

Otto von Bergow Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Henry and Hans have to report to von Bergow after the interrogation. Hans will express his hesitation in mentioning Olda’s involvement but ultimately leaves it up to Henry.

Don’t Tell von Bergow About Olda

Players can tell Otto von Bergow everything they learned, excluding Semine’s involvement. This is made slightly more difficult if Henry had mentioned that Olda left his wedding early, and they will have to pass a skill check. Players complete Necessary Evil on a success, and the next quest starts.

Tell von Bergow About Olda

If players tell von Bergow about Olda, he will send them to Semine with Hashek and his men. This leads to a confrontation with Old and Young Semine that unfortunately ends in a bloodbath.

Necessary Evil Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Henry can side with Semine and help him and his son escape, or he can side with Hashek and kill the entire village. Either way, Semine ends up burned to the ground. If players sided with Semine, they must lie to Otto von Bergow when they return to Trosky. If they confess, Henry will be hanged. If they sided with Hashek, they could pin it all on him, and the quest would end there.
