The D people, including Luffy, are hinted to be moon people by Oda in One Piece.

From exciting lore about the Giants, all the way to the legends of Sun God Nika, Elbaf covers it all. This arc also has some phenomenal antagonists for Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, and while some do them are central to this arc, others are being built up slowly for what’s to come later, such as Imu. Fans are finding out exciting information about both, and Oda might even have revealed some exciting information about the ability that Imu holds — all this is made possible with the ancient mural that was displayed in One Piece chapter 1138.

How The Harley Hint At Imu’s Power

  • Nico Robin Narrated The Harley To The Fans
  • It Hints At Imu’s Power

The introduction of the Harley was quite easily a major plot point in One Piece. In a way, this is absolutely massive, as through it, Oda is essentially revealing the whole history of the One Piece world to the fans. Given that a good chunk of One Piece is about finding the lost history through adventures, the Harley carries huge significance in the story. When the Harley was first brought up by the Giants of Elbaf, it was clear that Oda would reveal bits from it as the story continued. With the reveal of the Owl’s Library, the Harley was eventually narrated, thanks to Nico Robin. Here’s what the Harley texts stated:

It’s said that our world has been destroyed twice in the past already. — Jarul

First World

Flames engulfed the land, and humans succumbed to their desires, touching the forbidden Sun. The enslaved prayed, and the Sun God appeared. The Earth God was enraged, and together with the serpent of infernal flames, shrouded the world in death and darkness. They would never meet again.

Second World

Breath stirred within the void, and the Forest God sent forth demons. The Sun did nothing but spread the fires of war. The people of the half-moon dreamed, the people of the full-moon dreamed. Humans slew the Sun and became Gods, and the Sea God raged. They Would never meet again.

Third World

In chaos, there is void. The troubled shadow remembers the promised day, and hears the voice of the fractured moon. The Sun God dances and laughs, leading the world to its end. The sun will return once more, and a new dawn will arrive. Surely, this time, they will meet again.

Of course, there are many things at play when taking into consideration the Harley. First of all, fans are made aware of the fact that the One Piece world has three different eras, and not just two. There was a world that existed before the Void Century, and it was during this time that the original Sun God Nika appeared. As is clear from the Harley, mankind had found the power of Morheflame and it caused all sorts of wars, and even slavery. The slaves eventually prayed for Nika to come, and so he descended upon the world. But, the rage of the Earth God was such that he eventually went on to destroy the world.

Now, many fans assume that Imu themself is the Earth God. This could be a very plausible idea, but the problem is that Imu most certainly wasn’t born during that era. Furthermore, Devil Fruits were also not present during this era as they’re clearly implied to have come into existence during the Second World, meaning the power of the Ope Ope no Mi wasn’t there and Imu couldn’t have become immortal. It is likely that the Earth God back then was metaphorical, and the planet was eventually destroyed in one way or another, but Imu was most definitely not involved in the First World.

In the Second World, however, Imu was most definitely present. This is clearly indicated by the fact that there existed a Saint Nerona Imu among the 20 Kings who combined to take down the Ancient Kingdom. This person is the same as the Imu who fans know today, and they’re immortal. The immorality is heavily implied to have come from the Ope Ope no Mi, as was made clear by Ivankov in the Egghead Arc.

Imu’s Ability Could Be Of The Earth God

The Power Of The Earth God Could’ve Been Real

Imu from One Piece

While the Earth God who raged during the First World was most definitely metaphorical, that doesn’t mean that its powers cannot be inherited. Fans simply have to remember that the conception of Devil Fruits is directly linked to the wishes and dreams of the people.

One Piece: Oda Reveals The Biggest Prodigy In One Piece

The biggest prodigy in One Piece has been revealed. It might just be who fans think it is.

Anything that people believe in and dream of can be real and offer a different path of evolution, according to Vegapunk. In other words, the Earth God need not actually exist for the Devil Fruit ability to be real. If the legends of the Earth God were true, then, during the Second World, when Devil Fruits were born, it is highly likely that Imu consumed the power of the Earth God.

The Earth God raged, and with the Serpent of Hellfire, shrouded the world in death and darkness. — Harley

Fans also know that Imu became immortal after having the Perennial Youth Surgery performed on him by a doctor, potentially even themselves, and since then, they’ve been living on with the power of the Earth God.

Imu Has Multiple Devil Fruit Abilities

Imu Is Not Just A Regular Devil Fruit User

Clearly, based on what fans have seen of Imu, he isn’t a normal Devil Fruit user. His transformation doesn’t look like a regular Devil Fruit ability at all, and fans know that the concept of Yokai that exists in One Piece is different from the usual Devil Fruits. Imu can use bizarre summoning circles, almost as if it were alchemy, and summon demonic powers. They can grant demonic powers to others, such as the Elders, and even weapons, such as Shamrock’s sword. Imu can even give Devil Fruit abilities to others, as is heavily implied by Gunko’s Aro Aro no Mi, which looks remarkably similar to the power that Imu used to kill Cobra and injure Sabo.

Clearly, Imu, as the God of the Earth, has the power to bestow abilities upon others, and even control one of the Ancient Weapons. Whatever the true God of Earth ability is, it is truly deadly and fans absolutely cannot wait to see what Imu can truly do in the Final Saga.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1140, is set to be February 23, 2025.
