How to Beat the Dreamthrall Elder Brown Bear in Avowed

Players will encounter several bosses during their journey through the mystical world of Avowed. You’ll encounter one of the bosses early as you step into the Dawnshore and search for the Aedyran Ambassador in Strangleroot. However, the ambassador can be found shivering in one of the caves in fear of a plague-stricken bear. Players will need to beat the Dreamthrall Elder Brown Bear to rescue the ambassador and continue the quest.

How to Beat the Dreamthrall Elder Brown Bear in Avowed

Once you meet up with the Aedyran Ambassador, he’ll be cowering in fear and unable to have a conversation until you take care of the Afflicted Bear. Upon entering the arena, you’ll encounter the Dreamthrall Elder Brown Bear in Avowed that has mushrooms growing on its flesh. The disease has made it rabid, and it’s up to the players and their companion, Kai, to take it down.

All Dreamthrall Elder Brown Bear’s Attacks

The Dreamthrall Elder Brown Bear has a variety of attacks that it can use to incapacitate the players. Here’s a complete list of all its attacks.

Charged Attack: The Elder Bear will charge players to close the distance and bite them. It’ll also charge one of its claws and hit players, dealing a significant amount of damage.
Multi-Hit Claw Combo: The Elder Bear will stand on its hind legs and unleash a flurry of claw attacks. Although individual hit damage is much less compared to the charged attack, getting hit by all of them could be fatal.
Furious Roar: After a significant chunk of the Elder Bear’s health is gone, it’ll unleash a roar from time to time which will push back the players. This will damage players and knock them on their backs.

Best Way to Beat It & Rewards

Although the Dreamthrall Elder Brown Bear has a good number of attacks, most of them can be easily dodged either backwards or sideways. Depending on what class and abilities you’ve invested points in, this battle will either be a walk in the park or very tough for you. Here’s how to survive it.

Focus all your attacks on the body of the bear that’s been afflicted by the plague as that’s its weak point. Once you land hits on the bear’s body, the weak points will be highlighted in red, indicating critical hits.

As the bear charges one of its attacks, you’ll have an ample window to dodge out of its way and continue attacking the body. Make sure to consecutively attack to fill the poise meter, as it’ll let you unleash a series of finisher moves to take a good chunk of its health.

Don’t forget to use Kai’s companion ability against the Elder Bear to damage it even further.

Once the bear is down, you’ll receive 2x Bear Claw enchantment materials from its body, and a unique shield called Unflinching Duty from the body in the middle of the arena in Avowed.
