It won’t take you a long time in Avowed to realize that you’ll be taking a ton of damage during combat. For most battles even at the beginning, you’ll be surrounded by multiple enemies and you can’t dodge all their attacks unless you spend most of your stamina dodging instead of attacking them back.
While your companions will divert the attention of some of these enemies, it’s still recommended to have good armor for each battle if you want to survive without wasting too many resources. Unique armor scattered across The Living Lands are some of the best picks for this.

Light Unique Armor Locations
As the name suggests, these armor don’t weigh a lot, which means that they don’t have a heavy cost on your stamina and essence. However, they also have less damage reduction from the enemies:

Many-Hued Doublet is an armor that can be bought from Merylin trader in the Market District of Paradis.
It reduces the incoming Fire, Frost, and Shock damage while also increasing your health restoration from all sources.

You can find the Yellowband Camp on the eastern side of Dawnshore as well, and you’ll find Arcanist’s Gambeson armor in a golden chest here.
It increases your maximum essence and you also deal higher damage from AoE attacks.

You can buy Warmage’s Robe from the trader outside Naku Tedek in Emerald Stairs for 5,250 currency.
Apart from increasing your damage reduction significantly, this armor also increases your spell-casting speed.

Animancer’s Swallowtail is another shop armor found in the Farmer’s Market area to the southeast of Fior Mes Iverno in Emerald Stairs. It’s important to come here before you do the main story of Naku Tedek to get this.
The armor gives a staggering boost to your essence and a decent one to your carry capacity.
Medium Unique Armor Locations
This group includes all the armor pieces that are a good balance as they lower your stamina and essence by a decent amount and also give you some good protection.

You can get Stelgaer’s Pride armor by solving the Intimidating Feline Codpiece treasure map in Dawnshore.
It lets your character perform a barbaric shout if you take too much damage and also increases your stamina regeneration speed.

Vailian Breastplate can be found inside the Vidarro Family Mansion of Fior Mes Iverno by heading up the stairs and opening the chest in the first room to your left.
Apart from giving you additional damage reduction, this armor also gives you increased movement speed.
Heavy Unique Armor Locations
Finally, if you’re going for a tank build where you just want to sit there and take all the damage, heavy armor is the perfect pick as the damage reduction from these is very high.

Wayfarer’s Armor can be bought at the top shop in northern Paradis for 5,000 currency.
It gives you a bit of movement speed while also regenerating your health if you’re below 20 percent.

Death Knight Armor can be found inside the Waterfall Cave to the left of Fior Mes Iverno. When you’re in the cave, dive into a water pool to get to the hidden area with this armor.
It gives a whopping 30 percent Frost accumulation resistance with also a chance of restoring your health when you take some damage.

Pauper’s Plate can be found near the Wildwood Outskirts party camp by heading to the small buildings on the map just to the north of this camp. Climb up these buildings to find a golden chest for this armor.
This item can increase your Constitution by two levels and give you an extra 20 percent resistance to shock accumulation.
