Summary

  • The Epic Games Store hit 295 million users in 2024, showing steady growth year-over-year.
  • Player spending rose by 15% in 2024 to $1.09 billion, and 89 free games were given away.
  • Plans for 2025 include expansion of its mobile app and download manager improvements on PC.

The Epic Games Store has revealed that its user base crossed the 295 million mark in 2024, alongside making certain strides in other areas, such as average monthly active users. Launched in December 2018, the Epic Games Store recently celebrated its sixth anniversary since emerging on the PC gaming landscape.

After more than half a decade of existence, the Epic Games Store has cultivated a huge audience and has grown in popularity, partially thanks to its weekly giveaways. To boost the digital storefront’s PC market share, Epic Games has previously also signed exclusivity deals for certain major releases, such as Alan Wake 2. While these decisions have likely aided the PC game vendor’s growth, it’s still far from giving Steam a run for its money. At present, the Valve-owned platform sits comfortably at the top of the ladder, having broken its concurrent Steam users record multiple times over the past year. However, the Epic Games Store looks to be gradually closing the gap, as revealed by the numbers in its latest annual report.

Epic Games Store Stats in 2024

Besides stats based on its performance in 2024, the Epic Games Store laid out some targets for the ongoing year. It marked further expansion of the Epic Games Store mobile app as a priority, with a focus on bolstering the app library as it adds more mobile titles to its existing catalog. On the PC version of the store, Epic Games is gearing up to bring a brand-new download manager in Q1 2025, with support for download scheduling and more. Additional features, such as improved search and the option to preload games, are also in the works for PC users. Interestingly, the Epic Games Store has also mentioned making non-gaming apps available across its PC and mobile counterparts this year. Gifting is also expected to make its way into the store by 2025.

With the wide range of new features headed to the Epic Games Store, it will be interesting to track how that helps its popularity among players as 2025 progresses. Concurrently, it may be worth keeping an eye on how the Tim Sweeney-led storefront fares on the new frontier of mobile and what kind of games are given away for free on that platform.
