Almost 30 years after Dragon Ball GT aired in Japan, Super Saiyan 4 form is now officially canon. The latest Dragon Ball DAIMA episode has just included this form in its story, and this massive news is currently breaking the internet.

This article contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima.

Fans have been speculating that Goku’s “new” transformation in the series could actually be this old and controversial form that first appeared in Dragon Ball GT – a few supposed leaks have suggested so, but many were wary of taking them seriously. As GT is not considered canon, and many fans actually disliked it, SSJ4 has also never been considered canon up to now. As this form isn’t featured in Dragon Ball Super there haven’t been many reasons to take it as canon.

Dragon Ball DAIMA heats up as Supreme Demon King Gomah forces Goku to channel his strongest transformation for the first time in this series.

But now everything has changed. Dragon Ball Daima has undeniably made SSJ4 canon – the show could even give it a new name, but it is the SSJ4 form. Japanese fans have shared on social media the moment when Goku transforms into SSJ4 while fighting against Gomah:

Dragon Ball GT Was An Inspiration For Daima

Recently, producer Akio Iyuko was interviewed by MantanWeb, and he shared a lot of new information about the production of Dragon Ball Daima. He confirmed what many suspected since the first announcement: Dragon Ball GT was a starting point for the new show.

In the original idea, only Goku would be turned into a kid – just like in DBGT – and it was Toriyama who suggested that all the main characters should be turned into kids. Iyuko also stated that, originally, they just wanted Toriyama to be an advisor, but he ended up getting excited about the series and wrote most of it. Given that the creator of the franchise was indeed deeply involved in this production, it’s hard to disregard SSJ4 as not canon at this point.

Daima Will End On February 28

It has already been confirmed that Dragon Ball Daima will drop its final episode, Episode 20, on February 28, which is only a day before the one-year anniversary of Toriyama’s death, so it’s a significant date. For now, it seems there is nothing concrete regarding an eventual sequel to the series.

The episode is now available on Crunchyroll. Given that Glorio is about to make a wish, some fans hope that Goku will turn into SSJ4 once again, but now as an adult, in Episode 19.

Dragon Ball Daima is currently streaming on Crunchyroll (simulcast), Netflix and Hulu (a week later).
