In Jujutsu Kaisen, the main powers characters use are called Cursed Techniques. These can be either learned or innate and use Cursed Energy to fuel their abilities. Some users also use items infused with Cursed Energy, known as Cursed Tools, to help hone or enhance their techniques.

Jujutsu Kaisen: 8 Best Fights In The Culling Game Arc

Battle royales always bring out the best fights.

While some techniques are pretty simple, or bear similarities to other abilities or powers from other series, Jujutsu Kaisen also has a lot of unique and interesting powersets not seen often. This makes battles fun, and always a surprise when a new character appears, when we get to see what ability Gege has conjured up this time.

This list will contain spoilers for the manga, so anime-only watchers, read at your own risk.

10

Hanyu & Haba – Airplane Hair & Helicopter Hair

The names of these two techniques pretty much explain everything you need to know about them. Hanyu and Haba were a group of sorcerers taking part in the Culling Games, and were defeated by Yuji.

With their techniques, they are able to use their hair as airplanes and helicopters, allowing them to fly, as well as hover in the air, respectively. This is an absolutely ridiculous, and yet hilarious, Cursed Technique, and really shows the creativity that author Gege had with making abilities for the series.

9

Jiro Awasaka – Inverse

Awasaka was a minor foe that Yuji and Megumi faced on the night that Gojo was sealed. Because of his sealing, sorcerers who were previously in hiding in fear of Gojo, came out of the woodwork.

With Inverse, Awasaka has a massive advantage against combatants who don’t know about his technique. Inverse makes it so that damage dealt to Awasaka is the opposite: the stronger an attack would be, the less damage it does, and the weaker it would be, the stronger it is. However, this effect also has a minimum and maximum value, so you can’t just tap him on the shoulder and expect to win.

8

Nanako – Innate Photo Technique

Jujutsu Kaisen Nanako using her technique.

This technique doesn’t actually have a given name, as we only see it a few times before Nanako dies, and she was a minor character. However, it is still a pretty unique ability.

Jujutsu Kaisen: 8 Most Shocking Deaths

Death is a common topic in Jujutsu Kaisen. Still, we weren’t prepared for these brutal deaths.

With her Innate Cursed Technique, Nanako can use her phone to take a picture of something, and then manipulate the target of the photo with unknown limitations. For example, she used it once to send herself to another location, so we know it can be used as a teleportation device. Right before she was killed by Sukuna, she also attempted to take a photo of him, so it is unknown whether she was planning to teleport him as well, or if she could possibly kill him with her technique too.

Shigemo – Miracles

Shigemo is one of those characters who’s made to be hated, and you hate him as soon as he is introduced. Then, when you find out how he’s even still alive during Sukuna’s battle with Mahoraga, you hate him even more because of his cursed technique.

Shigemo’s technique is called ‘Miracles’, and it stores all the ‘little miracles’ we experience every day as power. As this power is stored up, it manifests as purple marks on his cheeks, and these are expended, unbeknownst to him, whenever he is in a bind. This is how he survived all this time, even against Nanami’s onslaught, until his luck finally ran out with Sukuna.

6

Todo – Boogie Woogie

Yuji and Todo vs Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen manga.

Everyone’s favorite besto friendo and Kyoto High student, Todo’s technique is called Boogie Woogie. With Boogie Woogie, Todo can clap his hands and cause any two objects that have cursed energy to swap places.

Teleportation powers are nothing new, but the implementation here is very fun and unique. He has to clap every time things are switched, and he is able to perform feints with this by clapping without using his technique. One of the best moments in the manga is when Todo returns during the final battle with Sukuna, and even though he lost his hand, he attached a vibraslap instrument to his arm and revised his technique. With his Revised Boogie Woogie, he can swap up to 50 times a second, making for an incredibly potent technique.

5

Hakari – Idle Death Gamble

Hakari Hitting the Jackpot in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Kinji Hakari is a fan-favorite character in Jujutsu Kaisen. Though he was suspended, he is a third-year at Tokyo Jujutsu High and is known for his abrasive personality, which even reflects in his cursed energy, which is described as being rough like sandpaper. Idle Death Gamble is the name of Hakari’s Domain Expansion, not his technique, but his Domain Expansion is what has the most impact and effectiveness for his technique.

Here are the best Cursed Tools in Jujutsu Kaisen!

With Idle Death Gamble, Hakari pulls his opponents into his domain themed after a train station, eliciting the effects of a Pachinko parlor and playing a game of chance. Like using a slot machine, Hakari is trying to line up three of the same numbers, and if he does so, he hits the jackpot, giving him unlimited cursed energy for four minutes, the same length of time that the song ‘Admiring You’ plays. Not only is this a super unique ability, but it is a great ability to read and watch, adding tension and hype to the battle.

4

Gakuganji – Sound Amplifier

Gakuganji is the principal of Kyoto High, and is one rockin’ grandpa. During the events of the Kyoto vs. Tokyo battle in Season 1, he carries a case, but we didn’t know what was inside until he opened it to reveal an electric guitar.

With his Cursed Technique, Gakuganji can basically turn his whole body into an amp. Combined with his signature red electric guitar, he can use the guitar and his Cursed Technique to fire off waves of cursed energy at opponents as he shreds on the ax.

3

Naobito Zenin – Projection Sorcery

Naobito was the head of the Zenin clan, before he was killed by Jogo on the night Gojo was sealed. Naobito’s technique is his Projection Sorcery, and it works on the same basis as a film camera.

For the duration of one second, Naobito can split that second into 24 frames, and create a predetermined set of movement that anyone touched by Naobito must abide by. If they break the rule, they are frozen for one second, which is enough time for Naobito to get off devastating attacks, and causes him to appear like the fastest sorcerer alive.

2

Higuruma – Judgeman

Another fan-favorite character, Higuruma is a lawyer who found himself possessing a cursed technique and fought Yuji in the Culling Games before joining forces with the protagonists to defeat Sukuna.

The name of his Cursed Technique is Judgeman, which is also the name of the Shikigami he can summon with it. This combines with his Domain Expansion, Deadly Sentencing, in which Higuruma and the target are brought into a courtroom and forced to follow its rules as the trial is held, and a sentence is passed out.

1

Kirara Hoshi – Love Rendezvous

Hoshi with Megumi and Panda in Jujutsu Kaisen.

This is perhaps the most unique and also most complicated Cursed Technique in the entire series. If you feel like you don’t really understand it by the end of the explanation, don’t worry, we barely do either.

The basis for Hoshi’s Cursed Technique is the Southern Cross constellation of stars. She can mark targets as one of the five stars that make up the constellation, and the targets must follow a specific order when approaching another marked person, or else they’ll be attracted to targets of the same star, like opposite poles of magnets. This isn’t a technique based on dealing direct damage to opponents, but rather making it incredibly tedious and difficult to fight Hoshi, or anyone else allied with her for the battle.
