In a surprise on Thursday, Bandai Namco revealed that Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Battle Destiny, a 2012 PlayStation Vita title based off the Mobile Suit Gundam anime of the same name, is being remastered and will be released on May 22.
The game, which is set to release on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch, will mark the first time that the title will be available outside of Japan. Previously, it had never been localized, though it was a popular title for gamers to try and import. An IGN article from 2012 showed the game selling over 40,000 copies in a single week in Japan, ahead of other titles like Mario Party 9 and Mario Kart 7.

While the news was certainly shocking, especially for Gundam fans who are searching for a new game to play, it was extremely telegraphed. As Gematsu reported in October, Bandai Namco filed a trademark for “Battle Destiny” that went public on Oct. 21. Then, in early January, that same trademark was filed in the U.S. Flash forward to today, and the game was officially announced, meaning these plans were in the works for some time.
Lately, Gundam Fans Have Been Eating Good
Over the past few years alone, Gundam fans have been treated to several different games or collaborations. In 2024, Gundam Breaker 4 launched to generally favorable reviews. That same year also saw Gundam collaborate with Call of Duty for some skin bundles.
Before that, in 2022, SD Gundam Battle Alliance launched, featuring suits from across Gundam history. There was also
Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy in 2021, and a port of Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS. Maxiboost on PlayStation.
The addition of SEED Battle Destiny helps add to the recent resurgence of Gundam titles. With so many more having the same fate of a lack of localization, it’ll be interesting to see if Bandai Namco decides to pull from the well once more down the line.
