Gaming laptops are increasingly becoming viable gaming platforms given the emergence of newer, more energy-efficient, powerful mobile GPUs of the past decade. These have steered the conversation from a desktop gaming PC to a plethora of other options, including handhelds like the Steam Deck. They have also become increasingly affordable, especially at the mid-range, offering more functionality as they get closer to most modern desktops via reduced power draw.
However, premium SKUs still continue to cost more, especially those that offer better design, beefier internals, and, in some cases, charge for their brand value as an established laptop manufacturer. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 currently on sale at Best Buy manages to tick all 3 boxes while offering a massive $520 discount in tow making it worth taking a second look at ASUS’s now value-centric offering at the retail giant.

Why Should You Consider This ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 Deal?
One would not be wrong to ask the obvious question: With laptops sporting the RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti expected to hit retailers soon, should one consider grabbing an RTX 4070-based option so late in the game? The answer is more complex than most in the tech world. For starters, we do not have enough benchmarks for those two GPUs. More importantly, we do not know about availability yet, but if the situation mirrors that of Nvidia’s recent RTX 5090/5080 launch, we might find it hard to score a unit at MSRP.
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 is a solid gaming laptop that also comes with a free 1-month trial of Xbox Game Pass.
This positions the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 as an excellent option for gamers looking to score a bargain that is performant and capable of running most titles in 2025 and beyond at its native FHD resolution with ease. It’s also ultra-portable, thanks to its 0.78″ thin body and overall weight of just under 4.5 lbs.
It also leverages a powerful, 10-core Intel Core I7-13620H CPU and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. Additionally, buyers will find a 512GB SSD available for storage, cementing the laptop’s place as a well-rounded option. While at what is effectively a 33% discount, it’s tough to find fault with the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16.

Why You Might Wait It Out Before Making A Purchase
While the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 makes for a capable gaming laptop in its own right, it does go on sale at a time when there are plenty of alternatives emerging at similar or even lower price points.
Some of its specs do seem slightly outdated, including the use of last-generation DDR4 memory under the hood as well as a smaller 512GB SSD in tow, but it definitely gets you through gaming and working just fine. That being said, it should be noted that most RTX 4070-based gaming laptops sport a higher refresh rate or resolution if not both at the same price point.
With Nvidia’s RTX 5000 series laptop GPUs expected to come, we can expect more price cuts in play soon, meaning there might be better deals in the making. Holding out for a better bargain is more than possible, especially if one isn’t particularly rushed by defunct or malfunctioning parts. However, going after this $500 savings from ASUS could be a more sensible play for many gamers.
