Upgrade Materials in Avowed, Explained
In Avowed, each weapon or main armor can be found or upgraded to five different quality tiers. These are Common, Fine, Exceptional, Superb, and Legendary. However, each subsequent tier is essentially tied to the main regions of the game. This means that you can only find or craft the materials required to increase one quality level in each region.
For example, almost all the weapons and armor you find in the game’s first region, Dawnshore, will be Common. You can upgrade the item three times using the local upgrade materials, then you’ll need to upgrade to the next quality tier. This requires a special material called Adra. In Avowed, Adra essentially acts as a scaling replacement, because each quality tier requires a different type of Adra to reach.
This means, while you are in the first region, you’ll never be able to upgrade your gear past the second Quality Tier. This is also because there are three levels between each quality level, and the materials needed for upgrades are different in each region. However, though they are different, they are also connected through crafting.
This leads us to the topic of this guide, Paradisan Ladder. This crafting material is only found in Dawnshore. Once you reach the next region, you can use four Paradisan Ladders to craft one of the next area’s crafting plant, Hylea’s Talon. This continues throughout all four regions of the game.
How to Get Paradisan Ladder, Hylea’s Talon, Admeth’s Wyrt, and Cave Coral in Avowed
The four major upgrade plants are associated with the following regions:
Paradisan Ladder |
Dawnshore |
---|---|
Hylea’s Talon |
Emerald Stair |
Admeth’s Wyrt |
Shatterscarp |
Cave Coral |
Galawain’s Tusk |
Using the Minimap to Find Materials:
There aren’t exactly prime locations for all of these crafting materials, but the first important tool you have for finding Paradisan Ladder – and all the variants – is the compass. At first, you may think that there is only one type of plant icon on the compass, so you don’t think you can tell when you are near a crafting material specifically.
This is not the case. If you look closely at the compass, there are actually two different types of symbols for plants (three including throwables). The first icon looks like a sprout, with two round leaves coming out of a short stalk. This marks the location of plants that provide either health and essence, or some type of gameplay boon.
The icon for crafting plants features multiple slim leaves on a curved stalk. Once you see it, you can tell it is very distinct. See the images above for the exact differences.
Because we do not yet have an exact map of all Paradisan Ladder locations, this is currently the best way to find the material in the wild. This is also true of the variants in subsequent regions.
Other Methods for Locating Materials:
Finding Paradisan Ladder, Hylea’s Talon, Admeth’s Wyrt, and Cave Coral in the wild is not the only method of acquiring these important materials. Consider using these methods:
- Purchase Materials: Check every merchant you come across for important crafting materials. There is a limited amount of materials in each region, so you will have to resort to this at some point if you want to upgrade multiple items.
- Crafting/Breaking Down Materials: You cannot craft or break down Paradisan Ladder, because it is the absolute base level of material. However, you can use four of any upgrade plant to craft the next level. For example, you can use four Paradisan Ladders to craft one Hylea’s Talon. You can also break down one Hylea’s Talon to receive three Paradisan Ladders. If you cannot find Paradisan Ladder in the wild, head to Emerald Stair and collect Hylea’s Talon, or purchase it, then break it down.
- Looting: Some chests and dead bodies will contain upgrade plants.
Recommended Locations for Paradisan Ladder:
If you are looking for good locations to collect Paradisan Ladder early in Avowed, here is a brief list of known locations:
- Ruinous Cavern (SW side of the outer Paradis wall)
- Shrine to Woedica (Directly east of Paradis)
- Pilgrim’s Path/Eothasian Temple (North of Paradis, “Dawntreader” mission)
As we find more guaranteed locations, we’ll add them here.
