One of the temporary upgrades players can get on a run is Embers. They come in eleven varieties, including Flame, Ice, Bolt, Wind, Slay, Vigor, Skill, Strength, Speed, Wisdom, and Charm. The more Embers players get for a particular category, the more skills they can unlock.

Placement in a Formation can change stats around, so there is no shame in asking Enma for help in auto-equipping the party.

On a run, players can choose one hero, and there is the possibility to equip six other party members who will be displayed on a bar at the bottom of the screen. Pressing Triangle, again on a PS5 controller, during certain combos will summon that corresponding guest character to attack. These guests run on cooldowns, as is typical in an action RPG.
