World War Z: Aftermath may be the Epic Games Store‘s free game for February 20, Game Rant has learned. Epic will officially announce its next freebie in the coming hours.

Since launching in 2018, the Fortnite maker’s digital storefront has been consistently giving away free games every Thursday. Most recently, Epic Games Store users have been able to claim Beyond Blue, an underwater diving adventure developed by E-Line Media, as well as Amplitude Studios’ 4X strategy game Humankind.

Here’s a list of all the games that have ever been made available for free on the Epic Games Store.

Game Rant has learned that World War Z: Aftermath may be the storefront’s next freebie. Pending any last-minute changes, Saber Interactive’s third-person shooter should become claimable on February 20, at 8am PT / 11am ET / 5pm CET—as soon as the Epic Games Store stops giving away F1 Manager 2024 and the Luba Free Unlock Bundle for Apex Legends. As per usual, the offer is expected to be available for exactly one week, until February 27.

Epic Games Store Free Games List

  • F1 Manager 2024 (February 13 – 20)
  • Apex Legends: Loba Free Unlock Bundle (February 13 – 20)
  • World War Z: Aftermath (February 20 – 27) [Rumored]

Game Rant was unable to confirm whether World War Z: Aftermath is planned to be the platform’s only freebie for February 20. The Epic Games Store occasionally offers surprise free games, which is what happened with Humankind on February 6. However, it’s rare for the storefront to launch freebies with no prior notice for two weeks in a row, so its potential World War Z: Aftermath promotion might end up debuting with no additional surprises. Epic will officially announce its free game(s) for February 20 later today, at 8am PT / 11am ET.

What Is World War Z: Aftermath?

World War Z: Aftermath is an enhanced edition of Saber Interactive’s 2019 shooter World War Z. It was originally released in September 2021, expanding the original game with three new characters, improved melee combat, and a first-person mode, among other novelties. Aftermath also introduced three additional maps: Kamchatka, Rome, and Marseille. World War Z: Aftermath received a next-gen update in January 2023, which debuted a bigger Horde Mode, aptly called Horde Mode XL, featuring encounters with over 1,000 zombies at once. This content drop also rolled out to the PC version of the game, i.e., the one distributed by the Epic Games Store. The game boasts largely favorable reviews, as underlined by its 72 average score on OpenCritic.

While World War Z: Aftermath regularly retails for $39.99, it’s been available on the Epic Games Store at a 50% discount since February 10. As a result, if it turns out that the shooter is indeed the EGS freebie for February 20, then the upcoming promotion will cut its ongoing sale short. The Epic Games Store has already given away the original World War Z, which was available to claim free of charge between late March and early April 2020.
