The Best Imaginary Characters In Honkai: Star Rail, Ranked

When Honkai: Star Rail was first launched, Imaginary was the least populated combat type with only one unit in it, Welt. However, with more characters being released during each update, it has now become one of the most populated paths while having some of the most broken characters at the same time.

We take a look at all the Quantum characters in Honkai: Star Rail.

With Rappa’s release in the Version 2.6 update, there’s now an Imaginary character from every single path in the game. However, not all of them are going to be worth your resources, so here are the best ones you can upgrade for the endgame.

Updated on February 10, 2025, by Sanyam Jain: Imaginary has been quite the developer’s favorite combat type ever since Honkai: Star Rail’s release as there’s a character from this type in almost every single update, with Sunday being the most recent one. We’ve added him to this ranking, and as expected, he’s quite high up.

Yukong

Harmony

During Yukong’s release in Honkai: Star Rail, there weren’t a lot of support characters, which made her climb up in the ranks quite fast. Unfortunately, she saw an equally fast drop as more five-star supports got released, mainly due to the amount of resources you have to spend to build a team around Yukong.

She essentially has to use her Skill every time she gets a turn, which buffs the ATK of the allies in the next two turns. She can also buff their Crit Rate and DMG if you time her Ultimate well. Yukong can be decent to use with follow-up characters since the follow-up attacks don’t count as a turn, but you’ll still have much better choices.

Welt

Nihility

Welt is one of the launch five-star characters that you can acquire at any point through the standard banner, and he was also quite popular at the start since he was the only Imaginary unit. Welt excels at slowing down the enemies with all his attacks with a chance of increasing the damage taken by them.

The main problem with Welt is the lack of both support and combat capabilities. He’s a decent character, but he can neither fully support any unit nor deal enough damage to be considered as a sub-DPS in the meta. However, if you don’t have many characters, he can be used in the team to get a bit of extra damage.

March 7th

The Hunt

March 7th is one of the more recent members of the Astral Express to get an Imaginary type of her own, and you can acquire this character and all her Eidolons for free through the Xianzhou Luofu continuation quest and event. She’s a follow-up-based unit meant to support the main DPS while dealing some damage of her own.

While March 7th second path might be The Hunt, you won’t be playing her as a main DPS if you want to get the most value from her.

With her Skill, she can assign the main DPS as the Shifu, which allows her to deal Toughness damage to the enemies that have the Shifu’s combat type as Weakness as well. Her eidolons can provide extra buffs to both her and the Shifu, making her quite a decent F2P-friendly support.

Dr. Ratio

The Hunt

Dr. Ratio will always be known as the first limited five-star character that was given for free during the Version 1.6 update, which means that you likely already have him if you were playing during that time. He’s another single-target follow-up unit that can trigger extra attacks after using Skill and Ultimate.

He requires quite a lot of debuffs on the enemies to consistently launch his follow-up attacks, and you have to focus on one enemy at a time, which gives him an inherent disadvantage in the AoE meta of Honkai: Star Rail. However, he’s still a great character to clear modes like the Memory of Chaos.

Dan Heng: Imbibitor Lunae

Destruction

Dan Heng: Imbibitor Lunae was quite an important character when he was initially released due to the sheer power spike he got compared to every other character in the game. While that spike quickly got overtaken by newer characters, he still remains as one of the best choices when it comes to the main DPS.

He can give himself a ton of buffs including DMG and Crit DMG, and works especially well if you have supports like Sparkle and Tingyun. You can easily deal over 200,000 damage with this character on every turn if you manage his abilities well.

5

Luocha

Abundance

Healers have always been one of the most sought-after units in Honkai: Star Rail since you need at least two sustainers to get through the endgame modes, which already gives Luocha an advantage. He can heal one of his allies when you use his Skill while also removing a debuff, which usually prioritizes the crowd-control debuff.

His Skill can automatically be triggered every two turns whenever one of the party members go below 50 percent HP, and he can also create a field that auto-heals his allies when they attack enemies. All of this comes together to make Luocha a great unit to have.

4

Rappa

Erudition

Erudition hasn’t been the greatest path in the history of Honkai: Star Rail, but Rappa is one of the characters that caused a significant difference to this. She’s a break-based character who can easily delete the Toughness of multiple enemies as long as they have the Imaginary Weakness, and then deal a ton of damage.

Erudition might not be the most popular path in Honkai: Star Rail, but you can still use some characters from it to beat the endgame content.

The best part about a Break DPS is that you get one of their best supports for free. Rappa is also quite an easy character to build since you don’t need to min-max for Crit stats, but she can also be difficult if you get unlucky on your Break Effect rolls.

3

Sunday

Harmony

Even though Sunday is an Imaginary character, you won’t notice this a lot while playing him since he doesn’t directly attack the enemies. Instead, he has a kit that can massively buff your main DPS by not only increasing their Crit DMG and other stats, but also giving them an instant turn.

This turn advancement happens whenever you use his Skill on the ally, and it advances both the target and their summon’s turn. He’s essentially the best support for Remembrance characters, but you can use him with almost any DPS unit because of his universal kit and the energy regen from the Ultimate.

2

Harmony Trailblazer

Talking about the best support for Break-Based DPS units, Harmony Trailblazer can be acquired by going through the Penacony arc. You can also unlock them early through the event section if you’re relatively new to the game, and this is undoubtedly one of the best units you’ll get.

Apart from having decent Toughness DMG themselves, Harmony Trailblazer’s Ultimate allows every party member to deal Super Break DMG on a Weakness Broken enemy. This means that you can even use characters that don’t necessarily have Break-based damage and make it work.

1

Aventurine

Preservation

While healers might be great to play the role of sustained, not taking damage is always going to be better than healing the damage back up, which is the main reason for Aventurine to be so high on this list. He can essentially create tanky shields for all allies with his Skill or by triggering his follow-up attack.

He can also increase the Crit DMG taken by a specific enemy with his Ultimate and provide various extra supportive abilities in a follow-up team. For example, if you’re using Robin in the team, the extra follow-ups performed by him can give her a significant boost on Energy.
