Though it may not seem like it at the time, these seemingly insignificant player choices can completely change a game’s ending.

Should You Spare Or Kill Ygwulf In Avowed?

Near the end of An Untimely End main quest, players will get to decide the fate of Ygwulf. Before making a choice, he decides to tell you the reason behind the assassination. Turns out Ygwulf was trying to bring justice to the people of Paradis after the horrors executed by the Steel Garrote, a group of soldiers led by the Inquisitor who hails from Aedyr.

Ygwulf also saw the Envoy in a weird dream where they were standing under the sign of Aedyr with their feet turned into tree roots wrapping around adra. The Assassin took it as a sign to kill players as it may be a bad omen. Now, you get to decide if you should spare Ygwulf or kill him.

If you spared Ygwulf by apologizing on behalf of the Steel Garrote and telling the assassin to take his people and leave, he will thank players and give them adra and 625 Currency as a gift.

Consequences

When you return to Ambassador Falscen Hylgardback in Paradis, you can lie and say he got away or confess that you let him go. Either way, he is extremely upset with the Envoy and will go into a long rant, scolding players about the mistake. If that wasn’t enough, Inquisitor Lodwyn appears and expresses extreme discomfort regarding the situation. Everyone eventually accepts what happens and moves on to the next mission.

Also, at some point when leaving Paradis, one of Ygwulf’s people will hand you a note that was passed to all the rebels. It says that the Envoy is not an enemy, and the rebels should never under any circumstances, attack you.

As for later consequences, when players are completing the Food Theft quest in Avowed while in Emerald Stair, it turns out that some of Ygwulf’s people stole the crops from farmers to survive as there is no food. If you have spared their leader, Ygwulf, and managed to convince them, they will hand over the crops without a fight. Some will attack you on your way out, but the leader of this group will assist you.

Should You Kill Ygwulf In Avowed?

The Envoy can refuse Ygwulf’s reasoning and kill him. Looting his body will reward materials, Currency, and adra, as well as his armor. The Blackwing Armor gives players +30% Stealth Attack Damage and +25% Movement Speed while crouching.

Consequences

Return to the Ambassador and he will be so pleased with players that he’ll reward 1,500 Currency. Additionally, Inquisitor Lodwyn is pleased and impressed by the Envoy’s abilities.

If Ygwulf is too difficult for you to defeat, spare him to avoid the fight and then expose his location to the Ambassador and his people will take care of the rest.

As for the Food Theft quest in Emerald Stair, the rebels won’t be so forgiving and might cause trouble for both the farmers and players.
