Summary

  • Pokemon fans think they’ve found evidence pointing to the reveal of a new Eeveelution.
  • Key art for Pokemon Day features a balloon with a strip of color for all eight of Eevee’s evolved forms.
  • However, there’s a ninth strip that doesn’t apply to any of the Eeveelutions, hence the theory.

Pokemon Day falls on February 27 and there will be preparations being made behind the scenes as we speak with two weeks to go. The only thing we can almost certainly expect to see this year is a better look at Pokemon Legends: Z-A. However, some key art for Pokemon Day is starting to get fans hopeful a new Eeveelution will be revealed.

The key art features Eevee and some of its evolved forms – and Pikachu who always has to be involved – taking to the skies in hot air balloons. The balloon occupying the bulk of the frame features a color representing each of Eevee’s existing Eeveelutions. However, there’s a ninth color incorporated into the design that hasn’t been accounted for.

Pokemon has restocked a lot of its most popular plushes, but they’re not staying in stock for long.

There’s a white and grey strip tucked between the colors representing Leafeon and Flareon which has sparked theories that a ninth Eeveelution will be revealed during this year’s Pokemon Day. Hidden Power Podcast shared a labeled version of the image on Twitter showing that every other evolved form of Eevee is accounted for in the balloon’s pattern with no Pokemon to attribute the white and grey strip to.

Let’s All Manifest The Reveal Of A Flying-Type Eeveelution This Pokemon Day

There’s every chance the color that hasn’t been accounted for is supposed to represent Eevee, but Eevee is white and brown, not white and grey. Also, what would be the fun in assuming that?

It’s not just a pattern on a balloon that has convinced Pokemon fans Eevee might be getting a new Pokemon to evolve into. Pokemon has dubbed 2025 the Year of Eevee, already releasing new plushes and a very popular TCG expansion, Prismatic Evolutions. If there was ever a time to introduce a new Eeveelution, a year celebrating Eevee would be the most logical place to do it.

It’s also been the longest gap between new Eeveelutions by quite some way. Eevee’s first three evolutions were added to one generation later via Gold & Silver. There was then a two-generation gap between them and the additions of Leafeon and Glaceon, and another two before we were introduced to Sylveon.

That means with Gen 9 now presumably complete, it will have been four generations between Sylveon and whatever Eeveelution comes next if Pokemon does indeed have something to reveal this Pokemon Day. That’s if the new Eeveelution is a new type, of course. Pokemon could buck the trend and reveal a regional variant of an existing Eeveelution, especially with Legends: Z-A being the game where it will likely make its debut.

If there is a new Eeveelution, and it’s a new type rather than a regional variant, a Flying-type evolved Eevee could be on the cards. Last year’s Game Freak leak revealed Pokemon once had plans to introduce a Flying-type Eeveelution, but the design was so similar to a fan-made one that the idea wound up getting scrapped.
