Brawl Stars Ranked Update 2025 Overview

The ranked system in Brawl Stars is getting a major rework, bringing a refreshing look with new Ranked tiers, battle cards, and a new Ranked progression system. The update also introduces a new skin rarity, more competitive Ranked matches, additional Ranked game modes, three fully maxed-out Brawlers each season, adjustments to Ranked Drops, and various other improvements.

This year is shaping up to be an exciting one for us fans, especially with the CEO and team lead of Brawl Stars also sharing insights into what’s in store for 2025. While this upcoming Ranked update is pretty significant, and the planned changes are final, there can be some minor tweaks when the system officially launches on February 25, 2025.

The Brawl Stars team have also revealed their main goals with the Ranked rework, which includes:

  • They want to make Ranked more competitive for skilled players.
  • With this rework, they aim to encourage more players to engage with Ranked, and hopefully inspire them to improve.
  • Also offering you more rewards for your time and effort invested in the game.
  • They plan to keep every Ranked season fresh and exciting for the community.
  • The team also plans to monetize the game better to ensure a sustainable future for Brawl Esports and activities.

List of Changes coming with the new Brawl Stars Ranked Update

Here are the upcoming changes coming in the new Ranked Season:

Introduction of the new Ranked progression system called Pro Pass

Brawl Stars is introducing a new Brawl Pass-like progression system called Pro Pass, starting with the next season. It includes both a free track and a paid track. Unlike Brawl Pass, the Pro Pass will last for four months, designed to align with major Brawl esports events throughout the year. The pass is priced at $24.99 for four months and includes 5 Pro skins upgrade, 11 Pins, 2 Sprays, 3 Icons, 600 Gems, and 5000 Coins.

Similar to Brawl Pass progression, you need to collect Pro Pass XP to advance, which can be gained by winning Ranked matches, with XP refreshing weekly, ranking up, watching and interacting with esports broadcasts on the official website, or by purchasing the Pro Pass, which grants instant progression, 2x Pro Pass XP, and increases the weekly limit.

Do note that watching Esports is not required to complete the Pass, but it helps speed up progression. Moreover, the free track offers better rewards than the current Ranked system, with a Legendary Starr Drop as the final reward. If you are a Master or Legendary player, the free track won’t provide significant buffs, but it’s great for other players.

Introducing Pro, the new Skin Rarity

The game is also introducing a new skin rarity called Pro, which can be upgraded up to 11 times by collecting Skin upgrade items from the Pro Pass or through Ranked Drops, eight months after the skin’s release. I am excited about this, as each upgrade enhances the Skin with visual effect improvements like a new Spawn SFX or cosmetics like a new animated Brawler Battle Card.

With this addition, you can get a Legendary-level Skin in the Free Track of the Pass every season. The first Pro skin will be for Colt, which makes me happy since he is my favorite. Coming to the upgrades:

  • The first upgrade in the Free track unlocks the Base skin.
  • The second upgrade in the free track includes a Pin, Profile Picture, and Spray.
  • The third one in the free track adds Special Attack effects.
  • The fourth upgrade in the free track provides an upgraded skin model.
  • The fifth upgrade in the free track grants 8 Pins.
  • The sixth upgrade in the free track introduces Special Takedown effects.
  • The seventh upgrade in the paid track features a new cosmetic: Animated Brawler Card.
  • The eighth upgrade in the paid track adds Special Spawn and Respawn effects.
  • The ninth upgrade in the paid track unlocks the Hypercharge form.
  • The tenth upgrade in the paid track includes Chroma 1.
  • The eleventh upgrade in the paid track includes Chroma 2.

Ranked will be competitive starting next season

The Brawl team shared, “Our initial goal with the Ranked mode was to make it more receptive to casual players – which we reached!” While Ranked now has nearly ten times more players than its predecessor, Power League, they acknowledged, “it became TOO casual for players who were looking for a challenge.” So they have reworked the system, offering:

1. A new Tier for the highest level of play

The game is introducing a new tier above Masters called Pro, which will also unlock the esports button for those wanting to compete in Brawl Stars esports events. Additionally, Masters will now have 3 tiers, which are Masters I, II, and III, each requiring 1000 Elo to advance. And you will need 750 Elo to advance a tier in Legendary.

2. The team is tackling Elo inflation from multiple angles

To address Elo inflation, they have removed Floor Protection for Mythic and higher ranks, meaning you can now be demoted to Diamond if you lose too much. That being said, while Elo gain has been increased, it is now more challenging if you are in Legendary and above.

Rank Boost is still available up to Mythic, however, the values have been significantly reduced. Additionally, they have made Trio and Duo team-up more restrictive as you climb, by not allowing you to push ranked together if your friend’s Rank is too low compared to yours.

3. Improvement in Matchmaking

They have enhanced the Matchmaking, resulting in faster queue times at lower Ranks, and stricter matchmaking at higher Ranks. Moreover, the Elo search range will no longer go beyond your rank restrictions, for fair matchmaking. And the best, Rank resets will no longer put you in Bronze I every month. Lastly, players in Mythic and above will now need 12 Power Level 11 Brawlers to play.

4. Removed Modifiers in Ranked

They have completely removed Modifiers and plans to introduce new ways to make Ranked Seasons feel fresh for you. The team added, “We felt modifiers were complex for casual players to understand and it restricted the viable Brawlers meta too much.

5. There are big changes to Gadgets

With this update, you can now use the Gadgets for unlimited times, each of them has its cooldown ranging from 7 seconds to 30 seconds, depending on their power. Additionally, the +1 Gadget Gear also got a rework, changing into a reduced cooldown Gear. The best thing is that this change is not exclusive to just Ranked and applies to every mode.

New Game modes coming every month in Ranked

The Brawl team has revealed plans to experiment with a new game mode in Ranked every month, first testing it in Trophies. If they determine the mode is competitive, it will be added to Ranked, and if not, it will undergo further adjustments or reworks before being added.

The first upcoming game mode is called Cleaning Duty, which is essentially a reskinned version of Jelly Catch. Following this mode, Brawl Hockey is next in discussion, though the team mentioned that it requires further discussion and some changes.

You can try maxed-out Brawlers every Season

I believe this is the best one yet, allowing you to use 3 fully maxed-out Brawlers every season exclusively in Ranked, with the selection rotating every season. Thanks to this, you can try out different Brawlers, experience their max power levels, and fill team gaps when needed, which is not possible with the current system. Moreover, these Brawlers will also count toward the Brawler Rank requirements.

New changes to Ranked Drops

With Pro Skins now guaranteed in the Pro Pass, Ranked Drops are receiving a few changes. All previous Ranked skins that were available in Ranked Drops will remain, along with the addition of more cosmetics, including Ranked Drop exclusive Profile Pictures, Pins, and Sprays.

Additionally, the Skin Upgrade item for Pro skins will become available in Ranked Drops, 8 months after the skin’s release. Plus, Pro Pass XP is now included as one of the rewards in Ranked Drops.

New Paint Jobs are coming for Ranked 2025

Brawl Stars is giving Ranked a visual refresh by introducing new Ranked Tier visuals for all the Ranks, and new Battle Cards visuals. You can collect these new Battle Cards, and the best part is that they no longer decay, and are permanently yours once collected. Additionally, you can now customize which Cards to display on your in-game profile.

A few other Ranked improvements

There are a few other Ranked improvements that you should know about. With Ranked 2.0, season timing is changing, and now each season will start on the 3rd Thursday of every month. The first Ranked 2.0 will begin right after the update on February 25, and run until April 16, 2025. After that, the second Ranked 2.0 Season will start on April 17, 2025, which is the 3rd Thursday of April.

Additionally, instead of showing in the Brawler mastery, the Ranked emblem will be displayed in Ranked. You can also Heart Brawlers to make them your favorites, filtering them out to the front during the Ranked pick phase. Moreover, the viewing distance for the Red and Blue side spawn is fixed to match.
