Although PlayStation has been reasonably quiet over the last few months compared to Nintendo, who revealed the Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox, who revealed Ninja Gaiden 4 and some other exciting titles, that silence has finally come to an end tonight. I’m Excited Doom: The Dark Ages Is Single-Player Only
Doom is a simple game with a simple objective, and multiplayer complicates that.
Before the showcase, we didn’t know much about it aside from the fact that it’d be more than 40 minutes long and focus on a range of different titles. While we could guess some of them based on PlayStation’s 2025 lineup, there were a few big surprises that were revealed for the first time, including Metal Eden.
As you saw in the reveal trailer, Metal Eden is a sci-fi first-person shooter from Reikon Games, who previously developed Ruiner. If the vibes look familiar to you, that’s because Metal Eden clearly went to the same school as the recent Doom games, and seems to play in a similar way with fast-paced shooting action.
In a press release, more details on Metal Eden were revealed by publisher Deep Silver, who confirmed that it takes place in a world where humanity has come up with a way to upload its consciousness to robots. The game will feature eight unique missions where players will explore the game’s unique new universe.
The press release also shared more information about the story and unique gameplay elements, such as Hyper Unit protagonist Aska, who can wield a massive first-person arsenal while using an energy core extraction ability to give them an edge during battle. Parkour, wall-running, and grappling will also be a big focus of the game, which sets it nicely apart from Doom.
Metal Eden’s movement is giving some serious Titanfall and Ghostrunner vibes, which is absolutely a good thing.
We won’t have to wait too long to get our hands on Metal Eden, either, as the release date was also confirmed to be May 6. You Doom-heads out there will no doubt know that’s the same month that The Dark Ages is planned to release in, which means that month should hopefully be a haven for fast-paced FPS fans.
