Metal Eden, a new sci-fi first-person shooter from the team behind 2017’s Ruiner, will be released on May 6, 2025. Part of PlayStation’s recent State of Play, the reveal of Metal Eden came alongside tons of other exciting game announcements, like Lies of P‘s Overture DLC, Borderlands 4‘s release date, Days Gone Remastered, and Housemarque’s new IP Saros.

The studio developing Metal Eden, Reikon Games, was previously responsible for 2017’s hit cyberpunk-themed isometric twin-stick shooter Ruiner. Despite the praise for its debut game, it’s been a bit of a roller coaster for Reikon Games since Ruiner‘s release eight years ago. Early in 2024, the Polish studio let go of around 60 people, which amounted to roughly 80% of its staff. In a more positive turn this past August, Reikon announced that Ruiner would be adapted into a feature film by Universal Pictures, led by director Wes Ball and producer David Leitch.

The key to a fantastic first-person shooter is punchy, satisfying gunplay, and these games made it their first priority.

It seems Reikon Games is sticking with its futuristic sci-fi aesthetic for its next game, Metal Eden, which was revealed during PlayStation’s February 2025 State of Play. The high-octane minute-long gameplay trailer showcased the game’s flashy visuals, as well as its smooth FPS gunplay. Metal Eden‘s thrilling trailer came complete with a release date at the end of it, stamping the game with a May 6 launch. While it made its debut at a PlayStation event, Metal Eden is also confirmed to be coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC.

  • May 6, 2025 (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S)

It’s quite uncommon that a game gets a release date so soon after its initial reveal, though it may make sense in this case, considering it’s been eight years since Reikon’s previous game. Releasing less than two weeks after Metal Eden is Bethesda’s Doom: The Dark Ages, which is one of 2025’s biggest and most highly anticipated titles. Because of this, there’s the potential for Metal Eden to be overshadowed a bit by fellow FPS Doom: The Dark Ages, though the differences in both these games’ settings and visuals could be enough to set them apart. Metal Eden hitting shelves just nine days before Doom could also give the game just a big enough window to find some success. Whether Metal Eden holds its ground on May 6 or pushes deeper into the summer to avoid Doom will remain to be seen.

With over two months to go until May 6, Reikon Games may have more to show of Metal Eden in the lead-up to its release. Fans of first-person shooters and Reikon Games should stay tuned to Reikon’s social media for any new info about Metal Eden over the coming weeks and months.
