Kingdom Hearts 4 Fans Are In “Shambles” After State Of Play No Show

Kingdom Hearts 4 Fans Are In "Shambles" After State Of Play No Show

Summary

  • Yesterday’s State of Play was a great showcase, but it noticeably didn’t have news for Kingdom Hearts fans.
  • This probably shouldn’t have come as a surprise with so many no-shows, but fans are still losing hope once more.
  • It’s especially sad considering what a great opportunity a Valentine’s Day week event could have offered.

To the surprise of no one, Kingdom Hearts 4 once again skipped out on the latest gaming showcase and fans are starting to lose hope that we’ll see it in the near future.

All the way back in early 2021, Square Enix announced that Kingdom Hearts 4 was in development during the series’ 20th anniversary celebration event. Considering the fact that Kingdom Hearts 3 wasn’t even that old by the time a sequel was announced, fans took it as a strong sign that lessons had been learned and that we wouldn’t be waiting that long to see more.

Kingdom Hearts 3’s Mistranslation Of “Taisetsu Na Hito” Is A Disservice To Riku

With Kingdom Hearts 3 turning six, I’m once again thinking about the game’s mistranslations and how they affect Riku.

Cut to more than 1,000 days later, and that’s sadly not the case at all. Not counting some slim details that series creator Tetsuya Nomura has revealed during interviews, we’ve heard and seen literally nothing else of Kingdom Hearts 4, a cruel fate that’s made worse every time a big gaming event rolls around.

Stopza Me If You’ve Heard This One Before

The showcase in question this time is PlayStation’s State of Play, which had its first showing of 2025 last night. Although we didn’t see several games that we thought we would (Ghost of Yotei seemed like a slam dunk), it was still a strong presentation and featured a number of exciting first and third-party titles.

Before the State of Play, many Kingdom Hearts fans seemed convinced that KH4 was a safe bet for the showcase due to it being so close to Valentine’s Day. While that was mostly a joke about hearts, Valentine’s Day, and Kingdom Hearts, it’s been so long since we’ve seen Kingdom Hearts 4 that most of us held onto what little hope was there.

Unsurprisingly, that hope didn’t matter much, as Kingdom Hearts 4 (and Square Enix in general, actually), was nowhere to be seen during the event. Fans are reacting about as well as you’d expect over on Twitter and Reddit, with Twitter user aitaikimochi pointing out that Kingdom Hearts fans are in “shambles” after the no-show.

Kingdom Hearts content creator TheGamersJoint summed it up nicely by pointing out that Square Enix is “TRULY MIA”, before lamenting its release schedule. Even Missing Link, which is surely coming out soon, doesn’t seem to be offering much support for fans and isn’t as anticipated as you might think. We’ve been through this so many times before, but let’s hope next time we actually see something.
