House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the Game of Thrones. The story focuses on Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, whose families are competing for the Iron Throne, leading to the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty. The first season was generally well-received, with a 90% score from the critics and an 83% rating from the viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the second season received mixed reviews from critics and fans, with many saying it was slow-paced and there was less action. Many were disappointed after watching House of the Dragon Season 2 and it showed in the reviews. It received 83% from the critics and 73% from the audience.

House of the Dragon Season 3 Filming Gets Promising Update From Star

HBO’s House of the Dragon season three star offers an update on when fans can expect filming to start.

House of the Dragon Season 3 will debut next year. Francesca Orsi, HBO’s Head of Drama Series and Films, talked about the series with Deadline. She teased that fans would enjoy the next season because it would include the Battle of the Gullet. It was supposed to be featured in the second season, but due to strike and various reasons, they trimmed Season 2 from 10 episodes to 8 and moved the anticipated plot to the upcoming season. “You know what, it was worth the wait,” Orsi told Deadline about the upcoming battle scene. “I was just on set and saw all the elements and what was behind it. I’m so glad we waited because it’s going to be better than ever, and I don’t think we had the time at that point to do what it is that we’ve achieved now this season. It’s just so massive, we needed the time to build it.”

She added that Kevin de la Noy, one of the lead producers, brought his “expertise” on set. He was part of the hit disaster historical drama Titanic and was involved in designing the events on the ship. As Orsi put it, de la Noy shared his knowledge of “how that entire experience is built” so they could apply it to the anticipated battle scene. House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal also discussed the scene in another interview in August. He discussed the materials and what the scene demanded from them to make it believable. According to him, they used “tremendous number of resources, construction, armor, costumes and visual affects needed to give the Gullet, which is arguably the second most anticipated action event of Fire and Blood, the time and the space it deserved.” Just like Orsi, he was excited how fans would embrace the battle which he considered “the biggest thing to date we have pulled off.”

The Battle of the Gullet is one of the biggest battles in House of the Dragon, so there are high expectations from it. The battle takes place in the sea near Dragonstone. Aegon II’s Green forces ambush Rhaenyra’s Black faction, leading to the bloodiest clashes in Westerosi history. The battle involves ships, dragons and thousands of people being burned alive and fans want to see how the series will put that into action. Those who read the book have imagined the chaotic event in different ways, and they are thrilled about how HBO will portray it. Considering Orsi and Condal’s statement, they prepared and did all they could for the scene. They also sounded confident and happy with the output, which only heightened the expectations. So, let’s see if the Battle of the Gullet in House of the Dragon Season 3 exceeds expectations or will be another disappointing scene.
