  • MindsEye game trailers showcased story and intense gameplay, with protagonist Jacob Diaz on a mission involving a mysterious brain implant.
  • Sony State of Play and similar online showcases are becoming preferred over traditional events, offering quick access to game trailers.
  • MindsEye, directed by former Rockstar producer Leslie Benzies, promises cinematic adventure and intense combat gameplay in a narrative-driven setting.

The first trailers have emerged for MindsEye, showing off story and gameplay footage from the new sci-fi action game directed by Leslie Benzies, who helped produce some of Rockstar’s best-loved titles. The MindsEye trailers debuted at the Sony State of Play broadcast held on February 12, 2025.

With the decline of large in-person events like E3 and the dominance of livestreaming, developer and platform showcase broadcasts like the Nintendo Direct and Sony State of Play are fast becoming the preferred way to show off games. Many fans are also beginning to prefer such online debuts, as they provide quick access to new game trailers and put the focus on the games themselves rather than the pageantry of an in-person event. For its part, Sony used the latest State of Play event to make a big update to the 2025 game release calendar, announcing launch windows and release dates for a number of previously announced titles while debuting a few new ones as well.

Rockstar Possibly Teases GTA 6 Fans With Red Dead Redemption 2 Image

Grand Theft Auto 6 fans believe Rockstar Games is teasing the highly anticipated title with a new image from Red Dead Redemption 2’s online mode.

One of the new games to debut at the February 12 State of Play was MindsEye, published by Hitman creators IO Interactive and developed by Build A Rocket Boy for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles. Billed as a narrative-focused single-player action-adventure title, MindsEye is being directed by Leslie Benzies, a former producer at Rockstar. Before leaving Rockstar in 2016, Benzies was credited with helping develop some of the most complex and iconic Rockstar games of all time, including Grand Theft Auto 3, 4, and 5, as well as Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire.

MindsEye Debut Trailer Features Sci-Fi Cinematics and Shooting Gameplay

The MindsEye reveal trailers showed off both gameplay and story. The story trailer establishes the protagonist as Jacob Diaz, a former soldier searching for answers related to the MindsEye, a mysterious brain implant giving him memories of a covert military operation. The narrative will follow Jacob as he fights to survive a world shaped by AI and human experimentation. In comments about the game, Benzies said that MindsEye will push cinematic adventure “to the next level,” and mentioned his history helping make some of the most realistic open-world games around.

On the gameplay side, the MindsEye gameplay trailer mostly focused combat, with Jacob firing weapons on foot and from a vehicle. MindsEye‘s combat will be “intense,” and victory will depend on quick thinking and tactical play involving companion drone mechanics. Notably, the fine print at the end of the trailer bills MindsEye as an “Everywhere World,” connecting it to Everywhere, an in-development MMO project also being published by IO Interactive. Though not mentioned directly in the trailer or press release, MindsEye is developed using some of the technology underpinning Everywhere.

Though MindsEye won’t be a massive open-world game on the scale of Grand Theft Auto, its cinematic influences and gameplay does appear reminiscent of other games worked on by Leslie Benzies. Perhaps fans of GTA may be able to expect a similar level of refinement when the game launches in Summer 2025.
