Originally launched in Japan for the Nintendo GameCube in 2003 and making its debut in other parts of the world in 2004, the game sees parties made up of series-regular Final Fantasy races and character classes journeying around a fantasy realm in a caravan and protecting settlements from a destructive miasma that envelops the world. A remastered version of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was released in August 2020 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and mobile devices.

A new rumor indicates that the eagerly awaited remake of Square Enix’s PS1 classic Final Fantasy 9 may not launch in 2025.

A recent statement from Square Enix has revealed that a large number of players using iOS devices have been unable to access content that they’ve paid for in the mobile game, including those who paid for the full version, due to a bug that surfaced when the developers changed the in-app purchase model. Developers have been unable to fix the bug completely, and Square Enix has decided to end service for it on iOS beginning on February 13, noting that the game is unlikely to return to the mobile platform. It’s an unfortunate end to a more than four-year run that got off to a rocky start, as Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles‘ remaster suffered major multiplayer issues from its early days, earning the dissatisfaction of a lot of long-time fans.
