Fallout’s Ella Purnell Explains Why Lucy’s New Finger Was So Annoying

In Fallout season one, Lucy has her finger cut off as payback by The Ghoul after she bit his off while struggling to escape. Even though Lucy’s severed digit was later fixed up by a robot doctor with a used one, her “new” finger was a very different color that stuck out like a sore…finger. Having a completely different colored finger from the rest meant Purnell had to endure ages sitting in the makeup chair daily to get it painted while playing the role of Lucy. Purnell also disclosed that due to the different color, a pretty gross nickname was made up for it called “the poop finger.” While appearing at a panel during MegaCon Orlando (via ScreenRant), Purnell revealed more about her “frustrating” digit.

“You know how annoying it is to have that finger painted on me every single day? This finger is the bane of my life. It’s the worst thing.”

“This finger is the bane of my life. It’s the worst thing” expressed Purnell when asked if she’s worried about being typecast as characters that lose their fingers. She went on to disclose that the entire process was aggravating due to having the paint put on and off every day, but not all the paint would come off, leaving her to explain to people when she went home what it was. “So I don’t want to lose any more fingers. I just don’t want to lose any fingers. I’m over it, I’m over the trigger.” Purnell also clarified how the “poop finger” nickname came to be, stating that it was Fallout‘s makeup designer, Mike Harvey, who thought of the amusing yet disgusting joke. “It caught like wildfire, and everybody started saying it, and then they, yeah, that’s the name of it now,” remarked Purnell.

Filming on the second season of Fallout was delayed due to the devastating California wildfires, but now it seems as though production is well underway. Although there isn’t a release date for when the second season will return as yet, it’s likely that it may arrive sometime in early 2026, so fans could have just a little longer to wait.
