Summary
- Diablo 4’s second expansion is coming in 2026, breaking previous plans for annual releases.
- Despite no expansion in 2025, Blizzard prioritizes quality over rushed content for Diablo 4.
Blizzard’s Rod Fergusson has confirmed that Diablo 4‘s second expansion won’t be arriving until 2026, which is sure to be sad news for fans of the game. The previous plan for Diablo 4 expansions was an annual release, but it seems that Blizzard is already set to miss this target.
Diablo 4‘s first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, received largely positive reviews from critics upon its release in October 2024, although some players were a little disappointed in the story. Still, there remains hope that Blizzard will continue to improve the story in future expansions. Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred also introduced the overpowered Spiritborn class, which was the first new class the series had seen in a decade at the time of launch. Since then, further news on future expansions has gone quiet at Blizzard.

Diablo 4 Player Discovers Broken Druid Build
A Diablo 4 player discovers an incredibly broken Druid build, and amazes the community by demonstrating how overpowered it is.
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier in a post on Bluesky, Blizzard’s Rod Fergusson confirmed at DICE in Las Vegas that Diablo 4‘s second expansion won’t be released until 2026. While it’s good news that a second expansion is still in the works, it’s bad news in the sense that Diablo 4‘s expansion plans initially involved annual releases. With Vessel of Hatred releasing back in 2024 and no expansion now planned for 2024, it appears that Blizzard is already set to renege on the plans it revealed around Diablo 4‘s launch period.
Diablo 4’s Second Expansion Won’t Arrive Until 2026
No further information was given about Diablo 4‘s second expansion beyond the release year. While it’s sad that 2025 won’t see a new expansion for the game, it’s not all negative. In an industry where developers are frequently lambasted for releasing half-baked products, it’s good to see that Blizzard has no intention of doing the same in this instance. Largely, gamers would rather have a great expansion later than a broken one earlier.
In the meantime, there will be plenty of seasonal content for Diablo 4 fans to enjoy. Right now, Diablo 4 Season 7 is in full swing, after its launch almost a month ago. Titled the Season of Witchcraft, Season 7 brought tons of new Occult Gems, powers, and rewards to the game, with constant tweaks to the balance to ensure a fun experience for all. The game is in a much better place than it was at launch, with a great base set up for Diablo 4 to remain relevant for years to come.
