Evelyn is a powerful Fire ATK unit released alongside Zenless Zone Zero version 1.5. Over the previous few patches, this game became overwhelmed by a number of Anomaly characters who clearly dominated the meta for end-game content.

However, Evelyn brings a breath of fresh air. Being an ATK unit, she checks all the boxes for a traditional DPS who needs to be buffed by supports while dealing massive damage. If you’re interested in Evelyn and looking to pull for her, here’s a detailed guide that will get you covered.
Best Evelyn W-Engines
Evelyn being an ATK unit, relies on dealing heavy on-field damage. This is why she needs ATK W-Engines that can not only boost her damage output but also provide her Crit Rate or Crit DMG which will help balance her stats.
Her signature W-Engine is definitely the best choice, but if you want, some really good free-to-play or low-investment choices will also work extremely well for Evelyn.
Here’s a list of all the W-Engines you should consider for Evelyn:
W-Engine |
Rank |
Stats |
Description |
---|---|---|---|
Heartstring Nocturne |
S-Rank |
Base ATK: 713; Crit Rate: 24% |
This is the best W-Engine for Evelyn as it provides a lot of Base ATK and Crit Rate secondary stat. Additionally, it provides 50% Crit DMG from its passive while reducing the enemy’s Fire RES by 12.5% and it can stack up to 2 times. |
Marcato Desire |
A-Rank |
Base ATK: 594; Crit Rate: 20% |
This is the best free-to-play option for Evelyn as the high Crit Rate secondary stat helps balance Evelyn’s CD/CR ration. Additionally, it can provide a maximum of 19.2% ATK bonus from its passive. This W-Engine was available from the event Into That Pale Wasteland. |
Canon Rotor |
A-Rank |
Base ATK: 594; Crit Rate: 20% |
If you’re one of those players who never purchased the Battle Pass, Evelyn’s banner will be the right time to do so. This is because this W-Engine can only be obtained from the Battle Pass, and it comes with the Crit Rate secondary while also providing a 7.5% ATK boost. If you land a critical hit, you further deal 200% of Evelyn’s ATK as DMG to enemies. |
Best Evelyn Drive Discs
Evelyn benefits the most from the 4-pc Woodpecker Electro Drive Disc. This is because Evelyn receives both a Crit Rate boost as well as an ATK boost upon using Basic Attack, Dodge Counter, or EX Special Attack. In order to complete the Drive Disc section, you can slot in 2-pc of Inferno Metal for a ten percent boost to Fire DMG.

Inferno Metal |

You may wonder why not go for Inferno Metal 4-pc set since it can boost Fire DMG massively, which should synergize with Evelyn in theory. However, when building Evelyn, you will need to hit 80 percent Crit Rate from her base stats to receive the full buffs from her Core Skill.
Inferno Metal, on the other hand, provides a 28 percent Crit Rate boost when damaging an enemy inflicted by Burning. This means your Crit Rate will go beyond 100%, which will be a wasted stat. Instead, the ATK boosts from Woodpecker Electro will be massively valuable.
Apart from that, unless you are using Lighter or Lucy, it will be hard to consistently hit the Burning status effect on enemies. This makes the Inferno Metal 4-pc set a lot less valuable.
Evelyn Skill Priority
Evelyn has multiple sources of damage, and you have to level them up for maximum benefits. Her Core Skill is extremely important so that you can receive the full benefits of the buffs. Apart from that, both her Chain Attack and Special Attack are important abilities as the first one is her primary source of damage, and the second one is used multiple times during combat.
Her Basic Attack is also valuable as it will help boost her Garrote damage. In terms of priority, this is how you should proceed: Core Skill > Chain Attack > Special Attack > Basic Attack. If you want, you can level up her Dodge and Assist, but you don’t need to get them to their maximum value.
Regardless of how you build Evelyn, you must hit an 80 percent Crit Rate either through buffs or directly through the base stats. This is because, once you unlock all her Core Skills, Evelyn receives a 125 percent damage boost when her Crit Rate is above 80 percent and that is something you cannot ignore.
Best Evelyn Teams
Evelyn is a hypercarry on-field DPS who needs supports to buff her damage. As such, her teams primarily include one support, a sub-DPS or buffer, and Evelyn herself. There aren’t many options where she can work, but with a little investment you can achieve her teams.
When it comes to team building, you must have a Stun or a Support unit in the team since that boosts Evelyn’s Ultimate and Chain Attack by 30 percent. Once you combine it with the 125 percent buff from the 80 percent Crit Rate bonus, her Ultimate and Chain attacks are boosted by 155 percent, which completely transforms Evelyn’s overall output.
Evelyn Premium Team
Evelyn’s premium team primarily includes Astra Yao, who can buff Evelyn’s ATK, Crit DMG and also provide massive healing that can keep the latter alive.
Apart from Astra, you will need Lighter in this team who will function as the primary Stun unit and thereby increase Evelyn’s damage. Apart from that, Lighter can also reduce the enemy’s Fire RES by a maximum of 75 percent, which will massively boost Evelyn’s overall output.

While Lighter is a Stun unit, if you build him like an Anomaly, you will be able to use the 4-pc Inferno Metal on Evelyn. All you will need to do is reduce Evelyn’s Crit Rate below 80% and use Lighter to proc Burning more frequently.
This, in turn, will trigger the 28 percent Crit Rate from Inferno Metal 4-pc set. Anomaly Lighter can proc Burning more efficiently compared to his standard Crit-based Stun build.
Evelyn’s F2P Team
When it comes to her F2P team, the core ideology remains the same; you need a buffer and a stunner to enhance Evelyn’s combat damage. In this case, Anby is the best option you can go for since she functions well with ATK units and can play the role of the stunner in the team. As for support, Nicole is a really good choice since she can debuff enemies and thereby assist Evelyn in dealing even more damage.

While she isn’t entirely F2P, you can replace Nicole with Lucy who will function even better with Evelyn due to being a Fire unit. However, if you don’t have Lucy, you can stick with Nicole until you can pull for a dedicated support such as Astra Yao in the future.
