Rangers have by far the most variety to choose from in Avowed. While there is no set Ranger class, if you put skills in the Ranger tree and play as a Ranger would (moving swiftly and attacking from afar), then you are basically a Ranger. And, therefore, you need a Ranger’s loadout. But that, really, could be anything.
A Fighter’s weapon in Avowed is anything two-handed, so a big sword, hammer, or axe. A Wizard weapon is a wand or grimoire. A Ranger weapon is anything else – that means a regular sword, a dagger, a spear, a mace, a bow, a pistol, and an arquebus all qualify. Here, we take you through the best ones in the first two regions of the game to help you start on the right foot.
While shields take up a weapon spot, they’re not really ‘weapons’ per se, and thus aren’t included here.

Anything From Gweneth
Purchase from Gweneth in Paradis
This is a bit of a cheat, but like we said, a Ranger has so much to choose from that we decided to highlight the unique weapons on offer. However, you can get a Common Sword, Common Spear, or Common Axe from Gweneth for just 150gp each. These are pretty easy to find around Dawnshore when you loot enemies, but if you have one in mind you really want, the price is right. A little bit more expensive at 3,600gp is a Fine Arquebus, Fine Bow, Fine Axe, Fine Dagger, Fine Mace, Fine Pistol, Fine Spear, and Fine Sword – these are harder to find, so worth shelling out for if you have a specific need to upgrade, but many of the unique weapons can match or better them.

While not the most powerful offering in the game, it’s an excellent starting weapon because it build up Fire damage so readily, as can the best early spells like Fan of Flames.

Why be a Wizard when you could be a Wizard with a gun? Or in this case, a Ranger, but that doesn’t make for a neat indie game reference. This powerful pistol can be found in the lair of Tempestuous Luandi once you collect the bounty in Emerald Stair, and is a major upgrade on the regular guns you can buy at this stage.

Plucked off a corpse, this nimble spear is great for giving your excellent reach on your enemies in Avowed. Add in its ability to ad additional stun and its cool turquoise prongs, and this is one of the best spears you can get your hands on. However, it comes at a mini point of no return, so clear your tasks in Emerald Stair before attempting to grab it.
This quest could be considered the end of ‘early game’, and it changes the world state, so do not rush to this until you are ready to progress.

At 10,368gp, The Long Touch is a very expensive weapon, especially as you buy it in the first city in the game (though admittedly in the northern region, which takes a little longer to unlock). However, if you’re a Ranger who favours bows, its deadly tool to have at your disposal.

Across Avowed, you will see different Memories that grant you Godlike abilities. The first of these, in Dawnshore, is given to you as you progress the story. Before interacting with the Memory (or after, it won’t disappear), you will see an axe on a tree stump in a lake. This is Drawn in Winter, but beware – skeletons will rise from the water to defend the weapon if you try to take it.

This is the one unique weapon Essence of War has, so is worth highlighting. The powerful mace as major stun value, which is what makes it so compelling. Everything about this mace is designed to stun. It’s like Chappell Roan, except its a metal stick with a big chunk on the end of it for knocking enemies out.
You can also buy Exceptional Arquebus and Exceptional Bow from Essence of War for 8,640, and the Exceptional Dagger, Exceptional Mace, Exceptional Pistol, Exceptional Spear, and Exceptional Sword for 7,200gp
