Astra Yao is a very unique Support in Zenless Zone Zero. Her ability to stay on the field while allowing her team to constantly switch between her other two allies is what makes her unique compared to other Support units. Astra Yao also carries one of the best buffs in Zenless Zone Zero as she drains her energy inside her Idyllic Cadenza state.
Although Astra Yao is an excellent Support, she still needs a W-Engine that can enhance her performance on the battlefield. Luckily, some of the W-Engines on this list are capable of granting her new effects on top of enhancing the existing ones, such as regenerating her energy, increasing her buff, and extending Idyllic Cadenza’s Chord count.

Zenless Zone Zero: Best Evelyn W-Engines
Determining the best weapon for Evelyn in ZZZ can be tricky since there are limited W-Engines that fit her perfectly.
[Reverb] Mark I offer nothing for Astra Yao with its passive since giving the team 12% extra Impact isn’t really useful, especially for a Support. However, if you don’t believe in [Reverb] Mark II, then go for the 20% extra ATK on this 3-star W-Engine’s Advanced Stat.

[Reverb] Mark II
Base Stat |
475 Base ATK |
---|---|
Advanced Stat |
40% Energy Regen |
W5 Effect |
Launching an EX Special Attack or Chain Attack increases all squad members’ Anomaly Mastery and Anomaly Proficiency by 16 for 10s. This effect can trigger once every 20s. Passive effects of the same name do not stack. |
For 3-star weapons, Astra Yao can really benefit from [Reverb] Mark II in Zenless Zone Zero. With this 3-star W-Engine’s passive, Astra can only work with Anomaly characters with the weapon giving her 40% energy regen from its Advanced Stat. It also suffers from a very low Base ATK, which means Astra Yao needs more effort on her Drive Disks to make up for what she lost. [Reverb] Mark II is only a good option if you don’t have any 4-star W-Engine for Astra Yao in Zenless Zone Zero.

Slice of Time
Base Stat |
594 Base ATK |
---|---|
Advanced Stat |
20% PEN Ratio |
W5 Effect |
Any squad members’ Dodge Counter, EX Special Attack, Assist Attack, or Chain Attack respectively generates 32/40/48/55 more Decibels and generates 1.1 Energy for the equipper. This effect can trigger once every 12s. The cooldown for each type of attack is independent of others. Passive effects of the same name do not stack. |
Slice of Time can be a last resort 4-star weapon for Astra Yao since it has PEN Ratio on its Advanced Stat with a not-so-perfect passive effect. Yes, the 4-star W-Engine increases Astra’s energy and Decibels, but it can only be triggered once every 12 seconds, which is not ideal for her quick-swap gameplay. However, its effect is still within what’s useful for her kit, so Slice of Time gets to sit in the lower tiers of Astra Yao’s best weapons in Zenless Zone Zero.

Unfettered Game Ball
Base Stat |
594 Base ATK |
---|---|
Advanced Stat |
50% Energy Regen |
Effect |
Whenever the equipper’s attack triggers an Attribute Counter effect, all squad members’ CRIT Rate against the struck enemy increases by 12% for 12s. The bonuses triggered by the same type of passive effects do not stack. |
This 4-star W-Engine is niche but worth mentioning since it gives Astra a decent Crit Rate buff for her team in Zenless Zone Zero. Since she’s an Ether user, she can only trigger Unfettered Game Ball’s passive effect by hitting enemies with Ether weakness. Once she does, she will buff her team’s Crit Rate by 12%, which is great. Not to mention, Unfettered Game Ball already grants her 50% extra Energy Regen to help her maintain her Chord count.

Kaboom the Cannon
Base Stat |
624 Base ATK |
---|---|
Advanced Stat |
50% Energy Regen |
W5 Effect |
When any friendly unit in the squad attacks and hits an enemy, all squad members’ ATK increases by 4% for 8s, stacking up to 4 times. The duration of each stack is calculated separately, and each friendly unit can provide 1 stack of the buff. Passive effects of the same name do not stack. |

Since Kaboom the Cannon is Lucy’s Signature W-Engine in Zenless Zone Zero, she can easily activate its complicated passive effect because of her boars. For Astra Yao, she can easily trigger three stacks with her own hit and Quick Assists. The fourth stack, however, is unstable as it requires a Bangboo or other ally to do another hit.
3
Bashful Demon
Base Stat |
624 Base ATK |
---|---|
Advanced Stat |
25% ATK |
W5 Effect |
Increases Ice DMG by 24%. When launching an EX Special Attack, all squad members’ ATK increases by 3.2% for 12s, stacking up to 4 times. Retriggering refreshes duration. Passive effects of the same name do not stack. |
At first sight, Bashful Demon might appear to be wasted on Astra Yao because of its passive that buffs Astra’s Ice DMG, which is useless. However, Bashful Demon is one of the best 4-star W-Engines for Astra Yao because of its 25% extra ATK Advanced Stat on top of its passive, which carries a constant ATK% buff for the entire team.
2
Weeping Cradle
Base Stat |
684 Base ATK |
---|---|
Advanced Stat |
24% PEN Ratio |
Effect |
While off-field, Energy Regen increases by 0.6/s. Attacks from the equipper enhance the squad’s DMG against a struck target by 10% for 3 seconds. During this period, this effect is further increased by 1.7% every 0.5s, up to a maximum additional increase of 10.2%. Repeated triggers only refresh its duration without refreshing the DMG increase effect. Passive effects of the same name do not stack. |
Weeping Cradle carries one of the best passive effects for Astra in Zenless Zone Zero. While she doesn’t benefit from the PEN Ratio on its Advanced Stat, Astra Yao will keep getting energy while off-field and giving around 20% DMG buff, which is very close to her Signature W-Engine. Just remember to have enough Energy Regen to maintain the Chord count to activate her Tremolo or Tone Clusters hits.
1
Elegant Vanity
Base Stat |
713 Base ATK |
---|---|
Advanced Stat |
30% ATK |
Effect |
When any squad member enters the field through a Quick Assist, Chain Attack, Defensive Assist or Evasive Assist, the equipper gains 5 Energy. This effect can trigger once every 5s. When the equipper consumes 25 Energy or more, the damage dealt by all squad members increases by 10%, stacking up to 2 times, and lasting 20s. Repeated triggers refresh the duration. Only one instance of this effect can exist in the same squad. |
Unsurprisingly, the best W-Engine for Astra Yao in Zenless Zone Zero is her Signature W-Engine, Elegant Vanity. From giving her more ATK% to regenerating her energy, the 5-star exclusive W-Engine provides everything Astra Yao needs to operate as one of the best Supports in ZZZ.
Astra Yao needs the ATK% she gets from the Advanced Stat to increase her team buff. She also needs energy to prolong her Idyllic Cadenza state, where she’s able to constantly buff her team. Finally, given that Astra consumes so much energy when she’s in her Idyllic Cadenza state, her W-Engine grants her team up to 20% extra DMG, which is great for a Support unit like her in Zenless Zone Zero.
