Astro Bot Wins Another Game of the Year Award
Team Asobi’s Astro Bot celebrates another Game of the Year win, adding to the platformer’s already stacked collection of accolades.
In a new blog post, Team Asobi Studio Director, Nicolas Doucet, again started off by thanking the community for a memorable 2024 and the continued support. Teasing the recently unreleased Astro Bot level at the PlayStation XP Tournament Final in London, Doucet confirmed that new DLC is on the way. Five new levels, all completely free, will be released each week, starting today on February 13 with Tick-Tock Shock. From there, players will get Thrust or Bust, Cock-A-Doodle-Doom, Hard to Bear, and then Armored Hardcore.
Even More Astro Bot DLC Revealed
Unlike the first wave of DLC levels, these sets of 5 are focused more on jumping and platforming, each with its own new Special Bot to rescue in Astro Bot. Once these levels are completed, players can then try out a special Time Attack game mode with Online Rankings to see who is the very best. In addition to this announcement, Doucet ended the blog post by confirming a special PlayStation 5 Pro update for Astro Bot, allowing players to achieve the highest resolution while still maintaining 60 frames per second.
The rapid success of Astro Bot has not gone unnoticed by Sony, as leadership reveals big plans going forward. During a recent earnings call, Sony President Hiroki Totoki confirmed that Sony has plans to release even more family-centric games like Astro Bot. The game’s success validated Sony’s content strategy as Astro Bot has made back its budget multiple times over. Alongside the success of Helldivers 2, Sony appears to be looking to capitalize on these hits with more games in these genres.
